Steel Shipbuilding Co of St. Johns
succeeded in lauding the contract
for repairing the steamer Ceo. W.
Elder now in (lie drxdoek on the
water front. It was not the lowest
bid that secured the contract. The
equipment of the home institution
for handling this class nf work and
the class of mechanics employed
were the factors that gave the work
to Manager Kelly's concern. The
contract calls for replacing the
damaged plates inn1 bulkheads and
the repairs to tlie machinery. The
exact figures we were unable to
learn. YVoik is now in progress
and will be pushed with vigor. It
will probably be five or six weeks
