Safely Docked at St. Johns Last
Sunday.
After lying sixteen months 011 a
rock in the Columbia river near
Coble the steamer Geo. V. Klder
was lifted high and dry in the dry
dock at St. Johns at 7 o'clock Mon
day morning. The work of dock
ing the boat began at 11 o'clock
Sundav and the workmen labored
without intermission until the job
was finished
The task of raising and docking
tlte boat was a herculean one, and
has baffled the best engineers on
the coast. The bottom of the ves
sel showed a dent in the plates as
large as a load of hay. It took joo
barrels of cement and an equal
amount of rock to stop the leak.
