The race for treasurer was n pretty one. No one really wanted it until they were nominated then each hustled because he was averse to being second. Last year G. M. Hall was beaten by one vote: this year he was anxious to be a winner. G. G. Carhart made n nice fight for councilman: not that he de sired political preferment but because he had been nominated. Until he nml J. H. Ulock we considered elected in case of any break on the citizens ticket. The writer of this feels like throwing a bouquet nt himself for the manner'in which he was elected. His opxncnts were fair and honor able: and Tint RUVIUW mnde a greater elTort to elect J. W. Hanks than it did to elect Thorndyke. Thorndyke issued no printed matter of any sort nor did his name nppear in the columns of this paper save as connected with the official lists. He knew the churches were against him because his colleagues (.who had a vote) favored high license: and 3 St. Johns Land Go. Had Mr. Hanks been well and strong and physically able to fill the duties ol his office none would have taken n nomination nguinst him. He is a Invorite.
