There is some danger that the fruit blooms have all been destroyed. Mr. Smith has devised a crude oil burner for cooking stoves, and the invention is a great success. The economical saving that the burner effects, alone recommend it to the public. Mr. Smith claims for his device the advantages of a coal stove without the great cost I necessary to fire a coal stove. It only costs two and one-half cents to run the burner for seven hours. Columbia's undefeated baseball team maintained its untarnished record by defeating the Hill Mili tary Academy in a very fast game last Saturday by the score of 6-t. Owing to the inclemency of the ! piayeu in the gymnasium and, considering the place, the game was very re markable. Had the game been played outside the score would undoubtedly have been larger, as the wearers ol the purple and white showed a remarkable improvement rhere seems to be little that of Jennings. The fielding of both teams was very ragged and most discouraging to the pitchers, and heart-breaking to the audience. The pitching of Mangold was puz zling to the High school lads, while: that of Goodell was not very effect ive. Goodell only lasted four innings and his successor fared no better.
