the past week, have sold Ford Tour

Joe Hardy, of the Oregon Trunk Line

The County Clerk's office has been
kept very busy this last week issuing
fishing licenses, and registering new
comers to this county, and those who
failed to vote in 1918 and 1919, for
primary election day, which is Mav
21st.
R. W. Douglas, office manager of
the Inland Auto Company, returned
after spending several weeks in the
east visiting with relatives. While
In the East Mr. Douglas had the privi
lege of being conducted through sev
eral automobile factories. Mrs. Dou
glas remained in the east, and does
not expect to come home for another
month.
Judge Duffy was here on Saturday
from Bend, attending to what busi
ness had accumulated in his absence
here.
M. S. Mayfield of Roberts was in
town Saturday afternoon. He atten
ded the stockmen's meeting In the
evening.
Mr. and Mrs. John W. Dee were
over from Grizzly last Saturday at
tending to business in connection
with their land.
Mr. Dick Mulholland was in town
last Friday and Saturday visiting his
wife and daughter, who are spending
the winter here.
Dayton D. Kay. enterprising young
salesman for Archer & Wiggins spent
the week end in Prineville visiting
with friends and calling on the local
trade.

Mrs Horton furnished the music
for the dance lust Thursday night.
Quite a crowd was In attendance, and
an enjoyable time was spent by all
present It was rumored that Mrs.
Horton will be here again In a couple
of weeks to play for another dance.
The Carnation Club, the live or
ganization in connection with the
Eastern Star will meet next Wednes
day, the 14th at the home of Mrs.
Rosenberg. All members of the East
ern Star are eligible to attend theBe
meetings, and are cordially invited.
The Ladies of the Mission Circle
of the Baptist Church will give a
"silver tea" April 13th, at the home
of Mrs. E. S. Dobbs. on Third Street,
at Two o'clock in the afternoon. This
organization Is the one that gave the
Green Tea last month on St. Patrick's
day, which was so much enjoyed by
those who attended. Anyone who de
sires may attend these teas given by
the Baptist ladies, and are cordially
invited.

Alice Brady, in "In The Hollow of
Her Hand, "which Select Pictures will

is the. story of a young girl who In
self-defense murders another womans
husband and is later protected from
against her and after trying to earn
her living in England In several dif
ferent ways she finally decides to
come to America where a position Is
offered her there as a governess. On
the steamer she meets and falls in
love with Challis Wrandall, a wealth;
young American, who is a rake, a lib.
ertine and has a wife In New York.
Hetty knows nothing about all this.
When her position does not material
ize in America and she finds herself
desperate and alone, she accepts
without question Wrandall's offer of
help.
At last he tells he that he loves her
and tells her that If she will meet him
at Burton's Inn, he will marry her.
Burton's Inn proves to be a regula
tion roadhouse. Hetty Is suddenly
awakened to the vileness of her com
panion. In self defense she kills
Wrandall. She escapes unnoticed and
hides In the woods. WrandulPs wife
is notified. She comes to the Inn
and tells the sheriff that she hopes
the girl that committed the crimo es
capes. On her way home Hetty mis
takes hnr car for tho sheriff's and
tired of hiding, decides to give her-j
self up. Mrs. Wrandall decides to
protect her.
At the funeral, Leslie Wrandall,
Mrs. Wrandall's brother-in-law, takes
a great fancy to Hetty. Mrs. Wran
dall, who the haughty Wrandall's
never approved of, decides, that she
can further humiliate them by mak
ing Hetty marry Leslie. Hetty Is In
love with Brandon Booth, a young ar.
tlse. She refuses to marry Leslie
Mrs. Wrandall threatens to expose
her if she refuses to marry him
Meanwhile, Mr. Wrandall, Sr., has
had detectives on the hunt for the
guilty woman. A meeting Is arrang
ed at the home of Mrs. Wrandall for
the following day. She is accused of
her husband's murder by the dotec
tivea. She denies the accusation and
Hetty then confesses. She tells the
whole story and explains that she was
forced to kill him In self-defense.
When she finishes telling her story
old Mr. Wrandall declares that the
law shall not touch her. Brandon
tells Hetty that it makes no differen
ce to him and loads her. from the
house to forget tho past and begin
anew with him.
