When he did he determined to develop the story further and ex pand It to novel length. For over fifteen years he added bits to the baale Idea and wrote var ious episodes of the story, when time permitted. About a year ago he sub mitted to the Saturday Evening Post a complete novel. Shortly after this one escape from justice. Brettner, through Ferris, the uncle (who cunningly suggests this means of attaining funds), steals the great Beshnu emerald. He Is arrest ed for the murder of the owner, Col onel Warren, which occur at the time of the theft. Arthur Hallam, Warren's nephew, who had encountered Brettner on the night of the theft and murder, Is sent by Dr. Comyns to a sanatorium for the recovery of his shattered nerves. Judge Reverton Is also sent to the snce place and both men full In love with a charming new arrival who gives the name of Isabel Corbln.
