THE TRAGEDY OP IT!
With loss supplies than they act
ually needed, too few guns, not
soub ammunition, a shortage ot
provisions, the allied armies have:
twice been driven back by the Hon,
hordes, and many lives lost, much
territory that has cost thousands of:
lives to regain, and actual danger of
victory by the nation that would con
qnor all free nations ot the earth.
Given erjual supplies and support
Ot the people at home, and there is no
comparison of the quality ot the al
lied soldier, the American soldier, if
you please, and the Hun.
Victory will come to our boys to
be sure, but just how soon depends
upon the system on which their
ammunition is sent over to them, the
regularity of the shipments of white
bread and other eatables into the
trenches where the actual fighting is
done, the supply of shipping, the
thousands of things that have been so
perfectly and handsomely provided by
our government and our people.
Will these supplies pause In their
steady stream to the front? On the
severing of the arteries of supply
depends the lives of Americans by the
hundreds ot thousands. The stream
will continue withoue any doubt, just
o long as the source of supply is kept
replenished and no longer.
This is done with money, billions
f dollars of it. How is it secured?
Two methods, one is by the sale of
securities, of which the Fourth Lib
erty Loan is a part, and for which a
campaign Is just now on, and to
which,- if you are a loyal American
you will subscribe, and the other by
direct taxation.
The purchase of bonds, and baby
bonds, commonly called War Sav
ings Stamps, is a voluntary matter,
and is a thing for which no Ameri
can is entitled to great credit.
To replenish our armies iaen are
conscripted; to fill the ranks in our
army of dollars the government has
efcoeen the method of volunteers.
That is the only difference, and that
alone should make everyone subscribe.

Manufacturers and leading mo

ZEROLENE. The majority of
motorists use ZEROLENE.
ZEROLENE reduces wear and
gives more power because it
keeps its lubricating body at
cylinder heat. Gives less car
bon because, being refined from
selected California asphalt-base
crude, it burns clean and goes
out with exhaust.
ZEROLENE is the correct oil
for all types of automobile en
