Tom Miller and mother, of Post were visiting relatives in the city Monday. Robert Zeveley and Mrs. Zeveley nd Miss Lily Knox left Saturday for Crater Lake. Word was received from Oren Jones that he Is now stationed at , Camp Meade. Maryland. Miss Velvet Zeveley is spending the week with Mrs. TJona Hawthorne at the L. J. Powell ranch. Zeke Hendrickson returned Satur day from Sellers Marsh where he has been for the past ten days. Mr. and Mrs. Arche Powell return ed Tuesday, from Berlin, Oregon, where they have been visiting rela tives for the past two weeks. Miss Irene Barnes returned Tues day from Portland, where she spent three weeks tn Lowengart's whole sale house. She Is now employed by Mrs. F. E. Lafler. Miss Nora Livingston has gone to Washington, D. C, to work in the Quartermaster's Department. Miss Livingston was formerly a teacher In the Prineville schools. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Moore of How ard City, Michigan, are visiting with their son, E. E. Evans and family. Mr. and Mrs. Moore attended the G. A. R. conventon at Portland. Harry, George, and Nora Stearns went to La Pine Saturday evening and returned Sunday. They were accom panied home by Cecil and Lora Stearns and Miss Laura Houston. High school will open on Septem ber 9. All those who have rooms to let to teachers or students will please list them with E. E. Evans. Anyone who wishes a boy or girl to work for room and board and go to school will also notify Mr. Evans. Ed. Helm Is tn the city today from Portland. John Aldrtoh of Hay Creek, was In the city Monday. Douglns. who have been visiting their son, Robert Douglas, left today tor their home In Ohio. Mrs. Bert Randall arrived home from Boise. Idaho. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Randall has been gone several weeks. Misses Maude and Van Gesner, who have been visiting their father, Dr. Gesner. will return to Portland to morrow. M. and Mrs. E. F. Long and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Foster returned Tuesday from a motor trip through California. A daughter was born to Dr. and Mrs. Michael C. Suit. In Portland, August 18. Dr. Suit Is at present sta tioned at the Presidio, San Francisco. Do not forget the Y. W. C. A. call meeting which will be held during the early part of next month at Red mond. Prominent speakers will be there. J. L. Miner of Mitchell has sold his large garden and returned to Prine ville. He has the garden rented on the Hines place and will raise fruit and vegetables to a large extent next year. Evangelist Dixon of Chicago, bari tone singer of note, will sing at the Baptist church next Sunday morning at 11. He will also speak. Mr. Dix on is In the next draft. Come and hear him. ' The Women's National Council of Defense has requested that all wom en who have lost relatlevs in the war. Instead of wearing mourning, be urg ed to wear a black band around the arm, with a gold star on It. Mrs. C. L. Shattuck, Mrs. W .1. Dishman and Dr. J. H. Gervin have been appointed to assist the Com mercial Club in preparing entertain ment for the drafted boys prior to their departure for the camps.
