Mot everyone in this community
is on the sick list this week.
There was a shadow social at the
Howard school house Friday nirbt
which was well attended and about
145 was taken In for the Red Cross.
Mrs. Charles Cowles returned
home the first of the week from
Wallowa.
The weather Is so nice and spring
like that the wild flowers are Moot
ing and the sage rats are coming
out.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Price spent
the week-end In Prineville.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hearford
passed through this section Tuesday
to Prineville on business.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Johnson mo
tored to town Tuesday on business

Mrs. J. R. Knox is staying with
Mrs. E. B. Knox in Prineville.
Mrs. Isom Cleek has returned to
her home at Shedds. Oregon.
George Kelley has returned from
Providence, R. I., where he hod
been on a visit.
George Knox left on Monday for
Boring to look after his interests at
that place.
Orval Hayes Is home from hifeh
school to spend the holidays.
Wallace Post is much improved
in health and is able to sit up sev
eral hours each day.
J. W. Johnson is building a houso
for Charles Smith at Suplee.
Mr. and Mrs. Stover. Mr. and
Mrs. Norton and Will Post attended
the lyceum number in Prineville on
Tuesday evening.
George Speechley, who has been
working at Bonnyview ranch for
several years, has gone to England
to enlist. He was called by his gov
ernment. War Savings stamps and Thrift
stamps are on sale at the postoffice,
also Red Cross stamps.
Mr. and Mrs. Stover entertained
at dinner Sunday, Roy Gray and
family, O. B. Gray and family, S. J.
Newsom and family, Robert Ray
mond and family and Mrs. Isom
Cleek.
Mr. and Mrs. Norton took Mrs.
Peugh, of the "Shotgun" district,
Miss Wadson, of the Canant Basin
district, and Miss Hansen to Bend
Sunday to attend the teachers' in
stitute. Mrs. Peugh and Miss Wad
son will return to their schools at
the close of institute work. Miss
Hansen will spend Christmas with
her mother at Gresham.
Mrs. Norton has charge of the
Christmas membership drive of the
American Red Cross for this dis
trict. One dollar pays your mem
bership for 1918. Under the condi
tions confronting the United States
it is the sacred duty of everyone to
join the Red Cross.

We are having a lovely fall for
this locality; no snow has fallen yet
and the grass has started.
Chas. Morris passed through
Barnes from Paulina on his way to
his home on Bear Creek.
Seth Dixon and Claude Seeds
went to Prineville last week.
Lew Standclift was a visitor at
Barnes, Friday.
Walt McKarland passed . through
our country on his way to the Dixon
ranch with a load of rye. He spent
a night with B. G. Demaris on his
way back.
T. T. Armstrong and Rubin Eng
strom are riding for cattle..
Chas. Birdsong is hauling wood
to the Alex Amnions place where he
is going to move his family in order
