S. Edwards and daughters. Flora and Eleanor, re turned from Portland, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Wise returned Friday from a two weeks' motor trip through the Willamette valley. Dr. and Mrs. H. G. Davis returned Thursday from Seattle where they have been visiting tor three weeks. Hobart Reams has a fractured wrist as a result of a car kicking when he was cranking it Thursday. Mrs. D. A. McDowell and family were in Madras last week visiting Mrs. McDowell's niece, Mrs. W. R. Cook. ' Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Sisemore, J. E. and J. R. They have been gone sev eral weeks. George F. Euston has sufficiently recovered from a recent illness to resume his work at the Crook County Bank. Dr. and Mrs. Harold Clark, of Madras, returned last week from a motor trip through California. They were gone seven weeks and report a very delightful trip. Mrs. Orpha Boyd and daughter, Quay, who have been visiting at the home of Mrs. Boyd's mother, Mrs. M. D. Powell, for several weeks, left Tuesday for their home in Las Vagas, Nevada. Remple and family re ! turned Saturday from a month's j stay in the vicinity of Metolius and ! Culver. From appearances the out door life agreed with the Doctor. The minister of the First Baptist Church will preach at the Mont gomery school house next Sunday afternoon, Sep. 9, at 3 o'clock, and you and yours are cordially invited. F. F. Nash was called to Roseburg ! Tuesday evening because of the j death of his uncle. Mr. Nash is the Linotype operator for the Journal and it has been impossible to get : another man to take his place. ; Dan Tarnsky and Harry Cramps j were arrested here Monday follow- ing a telephone message from the sheriff at Canyon City. Anyone having dish towels to donate ! for the Red Cross will please leave them at Michel's store and the Lad ies Annex will send them to the proper place. Mrs. H. S. Dixon and Miss Helen Summers left Friday for a week's outing at Corbett's summer home on the Metolius. Emll Reeves, who has been em ployed In the grocery department at C. W. Elklns' store, left Sunday for his home at Lebanon. Mlas Maggie Glate returned from Portland, Thursday. She was ac companied home by her mother who has been visiting In Dallas. Miss Mildred Fenulmore, who has been visiting her uncle, W. M. Arnold, for five weeks, left Sunday for her home In Portland. Mrs. J. K. Williams was In the city Thursday and left the same day for Redmond and will accompany her daughter. Ethel, to Portland. Everyone interested in Red Cross or War Relief work is requested to meet at the Ladles Annex rooms on Tuesday afternoon, September 1 1. An orguuiuttlon will be perfected immediately following the Music and Art meeting and work will start at once. Mrs. F. C. Laslette, Mrs. Ethel Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Ayres attended the closing revival services last Thursday night at the Bend Baptist Church. Several young men professed conversion and the church was greatly strengthened. Rev. Laslette returned with the party. Mrs. I. Michel and sons, Arthur and Sylvaln, returned Thursdav from a motor trip of two thousand miles. They were gone about a month and spent part ot that time at Wallowa Lake, and returned via ! Portland. They were accompanied , on their trip by Miss Bess Hendricks1 of Cascade Locks. : Ivan M. Dish man and family return- I ed Thursday evening from a month's outing. They traveled 1500 miles' in their car and visited at Wallowa! Lake, La Grande, Walla Walla, Pendleton and several other Oregon i cities. They report most of the ' roads in very bad condition with the! exception of those between Shanlko and Prineville. Bring them to Hotel Prineville, Wednesday, Sept. 19th, and let Dr. Turner examine their eyes, and If there Is trouble he will correct It. If not he will tell you so frankly. Don't forget the date.
