The above caption is a new war
cry that baa led the friends of food
conservation to victory in the pus-
sane of a law on Saturday in the
national house of representatives,
which besides having a great many
regulatory clauses, prohibits the use
of food materials In the manufac
ture of alcohol.
The nation appears aroused to
the folly of extensive campaigns tor
back yard gardens, prevention of
food waste In the kitchens of the
nation, and poor handling of food
stuffs while the enormous amount
of grain and other materials is be
ing wasted in the liquor manufac
turing business.
This has not been brought about
by the efforts of so-called prohi
bitionists, but is an aution In which
the people of the nation are to a
great extent united.
The efficiency of its fighting men
is also a factor. Our war depart
ment is not blind to the fact that
the best insurance actuarial authori
ties state in the cold calculations of
science that one hundred and eighty
men die among moderate drinkers
for each one hundred among ab
stainers under exactly like exposure
and circumstances.
