Page 2 CROOK COUNTY JOURNAL TheTiiKedo Hour by Walt Masgn Tuxedo's bully all the time; it makes the passing hours sublime, and by its soft and gracious curves it soothes the soul and rests the nerves, and fills my bosom, onceagain, with peace on earth, good will to men. But best I like it when I've fed this face of mine with jam and bread. When I have dined on Irish stew and beans and boiled potatoes, too, and pie and eggs and cheese and tripe, 'tis then I best enjoy my pipe. When from the table I withdraw, I grip my briar with my jaw, and fill it with Tuxedo mild the pure Tuxedo undented and smoke away in perfect bliss; no pleasure can compare with this. And in the curling smoke I see a world that seemeth good to me. A world that's debonair and gay, its woes and worries done away. The plans that seemed foredoomed to fail, the work that seemed of no avail, now wear the rosy glow of hope, and 1 endorse all sunshine dope. Tis thus in my Tuxedo hour; the world that seemed so dark and dour, is blooming like a rose of spring, and I'm in mood to laugh and sing. While Oregon, of which Central Oregon is a large and important part, is busy harvesting the largest wheat crop ever grown and the market is predicted to go as high as $2 per bushel, and the price of other farm products in like pro portion, livestock in the best of condition, losses at a minimum, and prices higher than ever before, it is well to look about and see how the people of neighboring countries and even states are faring. It is not necessary for us to men tion the conditions in Europe. We all know too much about that al ready, and humanity is sick with its lesson. In America there arc hardships and losses too, financially speaking, and the greatest of these apoaiently are in Canada. Reports this week state that many thou sands of acres of wheat that were considered good until, recently, have been reduced to a total loss by rust. This condition prevails in the middle west, and entire counties that are a solid wheat field will not have enough grain for seed, which is true in the Canadian areas just mentioned. In California a drough has been experienced that has seldom been equaled in that state, and the con dition exists almost to the Oregc n state line. Prosperity reigns in this state in every field of endeavor, and surely the least we can say is that Oregon, Central Oregon if you please, is the best place on earth in which to live. Paulina Items Haying has been in progress now for two weeks and heavy crops are reported by all. A rain on the llth and another on the 17th caused a delay but not much hay was damaged. The grain crops are good this year. Rabbits have done considerable damage to grains here. Everyone is looking forward to a relief from rabbits when we get the bounty. Cutting of grain will 'fcommence next week. THE LUNCHEONETTE MRS. ESTES & SON, Proprietors Confections, Cigars Tobacco. Fruits in Season, Cold Drinks, Ice Cream LIGHT LUNCHES A SPECIALTY '' ''' g. NOT ENOUGH CHILDREN ever receive the proper balance of food to sufficiently nourish both body and brain during the growing period when nature' demands are greater than In mature life. This Is shown in so many pale faces, lean bodies, frequent oolds, and lack of ambition. For all such children we say with unmistakable earnestness: They need Scott's Emulsion, and need it now. It possesses in concentrated form the very food elements to enrich their blood. It changes weakness to strength ; it makes them sturdy and strong. Mo alcohol. Scott & Bowne, Bloomfield, N. J.
