The McCormick mower has them and with a McCormick you can cut the stubble as close as you desire and get all the hay. In seasons when the grass is short, this feature makes a difference of tuus ia the hay crop. 1 his same close tilting adjustment means that the grass can be cut on rough and stony ground without danger of dulling the knife on rocks or breaking the bar by striking roots. The next time you are in town, come in and look over the McCormick mower and note the close adjustment of tilt. The McCormick mower also has many other features that will appeal to you but this is one you should know about before you buy any mower. W. F. THIS PAPER REPRESENTED FOR FOREIGN ADVERTISING BY THE GENERAL OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO BRANCHES IN ALL THE PRINCIPAL CITIES WATSON P. DAVIDSON. j In justire to Mr. Piividson the Journal repeats what it said in a ; news urliolo recently, Mr. David-j son is ready and has been prepai t d since June f, to buy the entire bond issue of the city for the pur-1 pose of const ructing a railroad inj amount, as before stated, ofj $100,000. That the proceeding were such that bonds could not be issued without some of them being cor rected is regrettable, but unavoid able at this time. All corrections will be made in less than thirty days however, and then the council will be able to ac cept Mr. Davidson's offer or in fact the highest bid for the bonds. GOOD BUSINESS. Prineville has received a great amount of advertising that is worth much throughout the land because of the almost unanimous favorable vote on the railroad bond issue. The facts are being copied througout the country and pointed to as an example of community spirit and development which it is claimed cannot be equaled any where. It is a regretable fact however that there has more recently de veloped an occasional note which falsely accuses the council especial ly of various things, apparently the "accusers" know not just what. This is however to be expected. Every community has its feeble minded, disgruntled, backbiting element of misfits who are always ready to misrepresent the facts and attack public officials who are really accomplishing something. This is usually done by someone who has been disappointed in some pet scheme to line his own pocket. The onlj thing to do with this ele ment is to consider the source of the braying, and forgive the ani mals for they know nothing better. The so-called suffrage plank has again been skillfuHyJsidesteped by both the great parties. The democrats adopted a plank that was intended to please the ad vocates of suffrage, butthis pre tense of support will apparentlyCno longer please the leaders of the great national movement which has for its object thejgranting of suffrage regardless of sex. It seems strange indeed to people in states like our own, where this law has been in effect for years, to think that there are parts of this enlightened country where this matter is yet an fssae. It seems at last however that the eaders of this movement have gained sufficient strength to prac tically control the election of presi dent this November, and In fact they are making open statements to the effect that they will do this very thing unless their measure is submitted to the present congress.' While this seems at first thought to be a drastic manner of securing results, at the same time the issue has been avoided so much that it seems that it will be absolutely .justified. , There is no excuse excepting a lack of enlightenment, for denying these people the right of submitt ing the matter to a vote. The re sult in states where equal suffrage has been tried out has been a de cided improvement and strengthen ing of all moral issues that have arisen. Much of the opposition in the nation and states where the ballot is denied to women, centers around Sizing Up H i Cuitomor. A rtnsKlnn offtVlnl once told a curious story , of the thoroughness of the Pet rojrrad police In the early nineteenth century. He hnd lost his pocketbook, containing a considerable sum, guvs notice and hnd the money restored to blin within a day or two without tha pocketbook. Shortly after he found that the pocketbook, still containing the original notes, was not lost, but hud Blipped Into the lining of his fur eont. Naturally he asked whence had come the restored money. He dis covered that the police rather than admit failure had collected the money among themselves. Dundee Adver tiser. A Postio Simile. The wold ap pears originally to huve meant tossing in n canvas or blanket and thence gen erally mishandling or ossiiultlng. "I'll canvass thee In thy broad cardinal's hat," Is the Duke of Gloucester's threat to the bishop of Winchester In "King Henry VI." The next stage of meaning was that of destructive criti cism, from which to thorough discus sion "eunvaHslng" a subject was sim ple enough. But bow exactly did It ar rive at the election sense? Dr. John son explained that the term meant "trying votes previously to the deci sion" and derived It from "canvas, as It signifies a sieve." Well, rather. Tuxedo has no kick or bite, suggests no "morning after;" its mi33ion is to bring delight, anJ fill your heart with laughter. It caught the sunshine of the south, when it was green and growing, and brings that sun shine to your mouth, when Tn-''v out the smoke you're blowing.
