Superintendent J. E. Myers has been busy for some time past visit ing the schools of the county. He says that the schools have a higher average ofjefficiency than they had a few years ago, and that the teahers are adopting a more uniform system in the conduct ef the schools. A notice has just been issued by the state board of fish and game commissioner which prohibits fish ing in the Deschutes river, any of its tributaries, or lakes from which it flows for a period commencing on December 10 this year and ex tending until March 30 next. The reason is given in the notice as being that the stock of trout is being materially reduced because 1 of excessive fishing. Ri A.
