NOVEMBER 'Tis well to remember before comes November with frosty, crisp mornings that give us new life, a night of disorder awaits on the border through which we must pass, and it sure means strife. For always October, long sung as the sober and most solemn month of the entire year, ends up with a rumpus and maniacs bump us in front and again smack us one on the rear. "What is it" you query, "that makes us so leary?" Well, in a few days you will have guessed it, I ween, because 'tis the season when those without rea son imagine they must celebrate Hallowe'en. November sure has always done its part in making history. It con tinues too, to put out a new 'crop of football stars every year and in doing so keeps our hopitals in opera tion. South Dakota was born in November, 1889. The first news paper was printed in November, 1663. Ohio, Montana, and Wash ington became states in Novemebr, the first in 1S02, the latter two in 1889. Esperanto was invented in November, 1887. Of course you speak Esperanto, fluently. And then there came the first phonograph, in November, 1887, but as we are strictly neutral we shall not pass our opinion on this. Name it your self. PORTLAND, OREGON Jim Houston, a horse buyer who has been buying throughout the Northwest for the past year, ha.' been in Prineville for the past sev eral days buying all clsses of horses for the warring nations. He takes light animals that are fit for cavalry duty, which are in turn sold to the French government, and heavy horse, up to 1600 pounds arc turned to English buyers. Prices are somewhat lower than they have been in the past. The light weight animals sell at from $40 to $100 and the larger ones as much a $150 per head. A total of about four car loads hive been bought in Prineville this trip by Mr. Houston, which means about 100 head.
