A great many of the child ren will be in attendance at the county fair on Friday. W. T, Downing of Chicago, and manager of the Central Oregon Land Company, arrived here Saturday to take over the management of the office here and will be here some time. - Rev. and Mrs; H. Patton Hall are the happy parents of a bright baby boy who arrived a few days ago. They are at Yamma,.Arizona, with Mrs. Hall's parents Rev. and Mrs. A. B. Tompson. A letter to the Journal from Governor Withycombe states that he will meet the committee from Prine villeon next Saturday morning, and will be in attendance at the fair that day as per former arra igment. Henry Montgomery and family . moved to Bend the last of the week, where Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery will take over the Hotel Shannon. Their son Chester will have the management of the Modern Garage there, and John will attend high school. Attorney General Brown announces that he had advised all district at torneys that under the prohibition law county courts must pay expens es incurred in obtaining informa tion as to violations of the measure, and that ie had urged the several prosecutors to include an estimate 'of this expense in their regular es timate to the county court for all the expense of ther deparments for the ensuing year. The law is manda tory and the county courts must pay this expense, he said. After the regular program, which was closed at 10.30, there was danc ing in the hall and cards for those who wished to stay. " FUNERAL The baby of Mr. and Mrs. French who had been suffering for several days died on October 1st, and was buried last Saturday, the funeral being conducted by the Rev. E. C. Newham. Pouget, of Paris, representatives of the French government arrived in Bend Tuesday morning and left on Tuesday .after noon in company of L. A. Wright of Bend for the stock country south of Bend where they will buy horses for the French army.
