TIME GOING FAST The candidates in the Journal's i popular voting contest are commenc ing to realize that J he time is becom ing more limited and that these beautitul prizes will soon be the property of the party who does the most work and gets the "most votes in the contest. More than a month has elapsed since the beginning f the contest, and the promise of the Journal at the start was that it would not last longer than December 20 which means that more than one fourth of the time is gone. SPECIAL FAIR WEEK. At this time the Journal announ ces a special prize to be given for votes secured during the four days of the fair week! The full details will be published in next week's issue, but will be to the effect that all the candidates will be credited with votes turned in during that period on the piano and also the one turning in the greaest number of votes will be given the watch, which is a beautiful Waltham ladies' size, and may be seen at Percy Smith's jewelry store. Watch npxt wepk j for full particulars. HOW TO GET VOTES. These prizes, will be given only on votes received bv the various cadi- dates, and brought or mailed to the Journal. You will be credited with 1000 votes on the Journal books by filling out the nominating coupon which is. in this issue of the Journal, and each 10-vote coupon that you clip out, fill in and ntail to this office so that they reach us before the date printed thereon will count. All new subscribers will entitle you to 2000 votes each, and renewals to 1000 votes each. Should you collect for someone that is two years in arrears for example, and get $1.50 for a year I in advance besides, you will be credit ed with 1000 votes for each year collected for, or 3000 votes. WHO MAY ENTER THE RACE This contest is open to everyone j who wishes to enter it, excepting employees of the Journal, or rcla I tives of. the employees or manag- ment. All contestants will be given an equal opportunity, and no favors will be shown any one that will not be extended to the others as well. We will do evreything possible to assist candidates in the way of ad vancing ideas for candidates to work out, but in all these all candidates will be treated alike. PRICE OF THE JOURNAL' The price of the Journal is $1.50 per year, whether the subscription is new or renewal. For each $1.50 collected on a subscrption that is now running you will be credited with 1000 votes, for each subscriber who pays $1.50 or more in advance 1000 votes will be given for each $1.50. No votes will be given on less than a one year subscription. The second grand prize is a Graf onola Leader, and the latest creation of the Columbia Graphophone com pany. As its name indicates, this ma chine is a cabinet enclosed grapho phone, the mechanism of which is j driven by a powerful multiple spring motor, and is silent and efficient. f As may be seen in the picture, which by the way is an exact repro duction of the instrument, there is a cabinet for the records, and the sound is controlled by opening or closing the sound control shutters. The most pleasing effects imaginable are thus produced, and by the regu lation of this instrument, the widest possible variations of good music are obtainable. The cabnet is furnished in ma hogany and will ornament some home at the close of the .Journal's subscription campaign, absolutely without cost to the winner. The third grand prize is a three month's course in The Dalles Busi ness College, tuition paid by the Jour nal. This tuition will cost any one $40, and will admit the one receiv ing this prize to instruction in any of the courses taught in the school. This contest is open to any one who cares to enter, excepting the employees of the Journal, or rela tives of the editor, or member of the family of any Journal employee. No one will be allowed to solicit , votes or to mention votes to anyone who is subscribing for the Journal while such party is in the office.. No limitations will be placed up--on the number of persons that may solicit and work for any one candi date. We will send receipt books to . any one the candidates wish us to, . who will in turn work for the inter-, est of said candidate, - All prizes will be awarded on the dates and in the manner advertised in the Journal, and any statement to the contrary shall be disregarded. If the successful candidate is not in the office at the time, the prize will be sent to them at once. No one will be authorized to make statements to the awarding of prizes or the standing of contestants but the editor, or in his absence, the foreman. All contestants will be given equal opportunities, and the standing of the different candidates, their names and the number of votes held by each will be published every Thursday afternoon in the Journal.
