"DRY" SLOGAN IS ADOPTED;

country, It naturally destroys the ef
ficiency of the man who fights for
bread."
This sentence, the "dry" Chicago
federation announced, will bo the slo
gan of the league, whii.h organized to
make Chicago saloons quit In 1916. It
will bo emblazoned on the billboards.
It will be written in electricity on mon
ster signs that will be stationed all
over the city. Wherever possible the
signs will bo placed in windows above
saloons anil next door to them, if the
places can be rented.
Stage Robbed Near Baker.
Baker, Or. Pacing the guns of two

forced to deliver a gold bullion brick,
representing the weekly cleanup at the
Rainbow mine, valued at about $7000,
to the robbers.
William Haider, alias "Sourdough
Bill," was arrested by Marshal Ed
Hanmin at Huntington on Information
from Sheriff Anderson at the Rainbow
mine for alleged connection with the
holdup.

NORTHWEST PROJECTS
RECEIVE $2,926,175
Washington. One million five hun
dred thousand dollars has been allot
ted by the secretary of war to continue
work on the north jetty at the mouth
of the Columbia river during the 15
months ending June 30, 1916.
The total amount allotted by Secre
tary Garrison for Oregon and Wash
ington is $2,926,175, or within $645,500
of the amount carried by the rivers
and harbors bill when It failed.
Other allotments for northwest
waterways are as follows: Columbia
and Willamette, below Portland, $450,
000;'Coquille river, $76,000; Coos Bay,
$70,000; Coos river, $3000; Sluslaw
river, $117,500; Yaqulna river, $3000;
Nehalem bay, $116,175; Snake River,
$20,000; upper Columbia river, Celtlo
falls to mouth of Snake river, $37,000;
Willamette and Yamhill rivers, above
Portland, $25,000; Cowlitz and Lewis
rivers, $15,000; Clatskanie river $1000;
Grays harbor and bar, $460,000; water
way connecting Port Townsend bay
and Oak bay, $15,000; waterway con
necting Puget Sound and Lakes Union
and Washington, $17,500.
