Judge Bradshaw Holds Pool Halls Must Close District Attorney Wirtz received word today of a decision made in tho circuit court at The Dalles in the case of Dennis Cormody of P.ond which involves the Sunday cloning of pool rooms. Carmody was arrested by Frank Illkins and District Attorney Wirtz some time ago for having his place of business open on Sunday. He was convicted in the justice court and the case was appealed to the circuit court. Madras Entitled to Cellar Championship Iiy losing to the Crook County High School basket ball team last Saturday night, the Madras High School quintet will have no opposi tion for the righf to the 1915 Cellar championship of the Central Oregon Inter-Scholastic League. The C. C. H. S. squad handed a 68 to 11 de feat to the Madrasites with little trouble. The stars of the home team were "Bub" Kates and Frank Brosius "Bub" shot three sensational field baskets, while Brosius had a great deal to do with keeping the Madras ites from scoring many points. John Compbell did good work for the Madras High, while "Ferd McCallister and Chet" Kincaid, who scored 20 and 12 points, with Harold Charlton playing a strong game at guard, helped Kstes and Brosius feature for the C. At the beginning of the second semester all the classes in Knglish began the study of new classics. The seniors have been with Addison in the London CofTee House of Queen Anne's time, and have been taking a pleasant sojourn with good Sir Roges de Coverely at his coun try estate. The juniors have been led by Hawthorne" through the mysterious and uncanny yet beauti ful "House of Seven Gables." The sophomores have gone back farther still to the mythical King Arthur in Tennyson's "Idylls of the King." They have also studied verse struc ture and have composed poetry of their own. The freshmen have had their first glimpses of Shakespeare in tho "Merchant of Venice" and have found him very interesting- The new freshmen who came into high school at the beginning of the semester are now reading "Ivanhoe" with eager interest. There is al ways something interesting in the Knglish department. Monday was vacation in hot or of Washington'3 birthday. C. C. H. S. won the basketball game over Madras Saturday night with a score of C8 to 11. A C C. H. S. Teachers' Club was formed last Thursday for all Normal girls or any teachers who wish to become members. The dues are two one cent stamps. The object is to give helpful suggestions to former Normal girls or receive same from those who are teaching. It is a mutual benefit club and its organization was suggested by several former graduates. Audrey Noble is president of the club. Edna Merritt is vice-president and Glennie McBain, secretary-treasurer. The committee appointed by the presidant to draw up the constitu tion and by-laws are Adeline Detriech, Elma Noble and Ila Knox.
