Mr. and Mrs. Harry Windom of Culver have been visiting at the home of Mrs. J. H. Windom. They left for home the first of the week. H. P. Hall received a mes sage Tuesday telling of the serious illness of a sister in Ducktown, Tenn., and left that evening for her bedside. Rev. D. Loree will fill the Dulpit at the Baptist church during the absence of Rev. Hall. The Cheerful Helpers class enter tained the boys' class, taught by D F. Stewart, Monday evening in the basement of the Baptist church. Colonial costumes were worn and the twentyfive or more present en joyed a good time. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Geo. H. Ramsey was the Prineville delegate to the C- E. convention that met at Eugene last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. She will spend a few weeks visiting her parents at that place before coming home. Ora Van Tassel was in Prineville Saturday from Vanora. Mr. Van Tassel is buyer for the Northwest ern Grain & Warehouse Company. He has recently bought some crops in the Madras country at record prices. Recent rains have put the roads between Prineville and Redmond in a very bad condition. Nothing less than a graveled or cinder road between these towns will withstand the heavy traffic these roads are subjected to C. W. Foster and S. S. Stearns shipped three cars of cattle to Port land the last of the week but were compelled to reship to Seattle Mon day owing to the poor condition of the Portland market. Morgan comprise a five- piece orchestra which plays a short concert each Thursday evening at the Lyric Theatre between the first and second shows. Elkins gave a review of the "Melting Pot," a drama in four acts. Mrs. Charles S. Edwards gave a short history of California Missions and illustrated her talk by photo. graphs. Coen is said to have made a complete con fession, says the Oregonian. Carefully following wagon tracks that led from one farm house to another, Deputy Sheriff Christoffer sen passed two days and two nights in the farming section east of Port land endeavoring to run down the thieves who had been the cause of complaints for many months Through the wagon they used, ChristotTorsen fastened the crimes on Tobin and Coen. Tobin, who is 40 vears old, dis appeared from U'lits more than a year ago with another man's wife and 10-veur-old daughter. All ef forts since then to locate him were futile, until it was found Saturday that he has been living at Boring. Coen, 22 years old. lived at Ixmts. The two had rented a wagon from a Ints livery stable for their nightly journeys through the farm ing sections. It was through this wagon that Christofferson located tliem. Two gunny sacks stulTed with feathers which had been aocumu lated during a long period of chicken raids, were found and are in the possession of the sheriffs office as evidence. Coen is said to have told the deputy sheriffs that thev killed and dressed all the chickens, selling them to commission men in Port land. The theft of 50 chickens from L. B. Elston on the Base Line road Tuesday night, and 42 chickens from John Kuhlin who lives near Lenta on Thursday night, were the specific crimes which Christoffersen was investigating. Died Mrs. Virgil C. Belknap of Prairie City died in Portland February 10, from an attack of appendicitis. Besides a husband she leaves three children. The body was shipped to Prairie City for burial.
