The statement made in public Sunday that the basket ball game on Sunday between Lamonta and Corvallis High School was under the auspices of our high school was untrue. We do not favor any sort of athletics on Sunday and the game was played against the wishes of the school. The C. C. II. S. basket ball team will play the return games with Corvallis High School at Corvallis about the first of March. Si-18-lt Return a Verdict of Second Degree Murder A verdict of second degree mur der was returned in tho Clarence Pettis trial at Tho Dalles in just twenty minutes after the case went to the jury. Pettis was convicted for the murder of Ralph Brown, son of Willis W. Brown, whom he shot and killed on New Year's Day. The killing occurred at the Brown home on the Deschutes.
