ueorsre Dixon returned from a
business trip to Portland yesterday.
Drs- Martin are attain in their
office on the street to the court
house. 0. H. Olson was in Prineville the
first of the week from Bonnyyiew
ranch.
Mrs. Fhilliber will arrive in
Prineville tonight for a visit with
relatives.
Mrs. Estes returned from Tort
land today with a stock of ad
vanced sprinjr millinery.
The ladies of the Presbyterian
Aid will meet at the home of Mrs.
Balfour on Thursday, February 11.
George Russell shipped two cars
of cattle and a load of hogs from
Redmond to the Portland market
yesterday.
J. S. Fox, formerly of this place,
now holds the position of state
secretary for the prohibition party
in Oregon.
The entrance class for the first
grade is larger than usual for
this time of year. Already twenty
pupils have been enrolled.
Jim Cram, Paul Held, Harry
Barnes and the Mays Ranch all re
port stock losses from rabies during
the past three or four days.
All the usual services at the
Christian church next Sunday. The
evening subject is, "Fixing the
Blame." Geo. H. Ramsey, pastor.
Born To the wife of Arthur H.
Young, February 1, a girl. Mr.
Young is now in Canada in the
British army and expects to be
called to Europe at any time.

Geo. T. Cochran, of La Grande, '
was in Prineville yesterday. Mr.
Cochran is superintendent of this
water district and was here on busi
ness with the court and the water
users concerning the coming irri
gating season.

law Saturday.
Clyde McKay and George S.
Young were in Prineville from
Bend Saturday.
Rev. Luke Sheehan will hold ser
vices in Stewart Hall at 8:30 next
Sunday morning.
Mrs. I. Michel returned from
Portland the first of the week much
improved in health-

ville Monday from Deschutes.
Jim Hays of Tost and M. L
Brown report loss of stock from
rabies this morning. Mr. Brown
has lost six head to date.
The furnace at the First Baptist
church ' has been fixed and the
church will be good and warm

The 3 bounty bill passed the
senate in Salem Menday. The bill
provides for the f3 fei for a year.
There were but three votes against
the bill.
The committee in charge of the
Marcn meeting of the Ladies'
Annex is composed of the following
ladies: Meslames C. W. Elkins,
Kayler. Duffy, C. W. Foster and
Berrian.
Mrs- John Wigle will review
"Kindling" by Chas- Kenyon, be
fore the Literary Department of
the Ladies' Annex next Monday
evening at 7:30. The course in
Modern Drama is proving very
interesting and a large attendance
is desired.
Mrs. Wm. Smead of Post reports
an unusual case of rabies. A
chicken in the Smead barnyard de
veloped the symptoms the other day
and in so far as anyone can tell who
has seen other stock infected, a
well defined case was developed be
fore the chicken was killed. Two
housecats have been found to have
the disease recently.
Seven car loads of material for
exhibits in the Oregon building are
now enroute to San Francisco from
this state, and will be placed on ex
hibition at once.

W. E Van Allen, former deputy
sheriff, row has a position as book
keeper for the Central Oregon Irri
gation Company of Deschutes.
A card from C. B Dinwiddie re
ports his safe arrival in Wickens
burg, Arizona. He says they are
having real summer weather there.
Up to Tuesday evening of this
week, County Clerk Johnson of
Jefferson had filed nine instruments
of transfer for that county and 68
mining locations.
District Attorney Wirtz says that
he was misquoted in the Bend
Bulletin last week. They made the
statement that he recommended the
sentence of Gaylord McDaniel to be
reduced from life to five years.
Mr. Wirtz says that he protested
against such action and that all cor
respondence will prove his side of
the case.
W. J. Schmidt of Hillsboro is in
Prineville on a visit and looking
after business matters. Mr.
Schmidt, who lived for years on
Summit Prairie, east of Prineville,
says he is enjoying a rest. He will
spend the summer in California and
will visit both fairs.

Floyd Houston returned from a
six-wooks' visit in the Willamette

Karl Wooley of Supleo and Seth
Dixon lost animals from rabies on
Tuesday of this week.
T. S. Barnes has a new Buick
roadster. He sold his five pas
senger car to A. B. Roller.
Perry Reedv, of the Central Ore
gon Garage of Redmond, was in
Prineville on business Tuesday,
Miss Biggs is again at work, hav
ing almost recos-ered from injuries
received in the auto wreck just
before Christmas.
C. W. Freeman has been ap
pointed postmaster at Lamonta.
Ho succeeds M. T. Cowan who was
burned out at that place some time
ago.
The Monday Night Club met
with the Misses Jeffries and Haw
ley on February 1st. All parlia
mentary rules were strictly en
forced. County court is in soeeial session
this week. Road matters and other
things of importance are being con
sidered. A full report of the pro
ceedings will le given next week in
the Journal.
Mrs. Kates and daughter re
turned today from a two-months'
stay in Portland, where Miss Leola
has been undergoing treatment for
a sprained knee. The injured mem
ber is still in a plaster cast.
The Christian Endeavor Societies
of the Presbyterian and Christian
churches will unite next Sunday
evening to celebrate Christian En
deavor Day. The meeting will be
held at the Union church at 6:110
p. m.
The Crook County Abstract Com
pany has opened a branch office at
Culver, the county seat of Jefferson
county. Mr. Bell is spending a
part of his time there at present
and as soon as the records are
transcribed there will be a complete
plant there. Some of the present
office force will perhaps be in
charge of the new plant.
