LOCAL MENTION
A. W. Boyce was in from Culver
this week.
Frank Forest was a Frineville
visitor Tuesday.
Born January 26, to the wife of
C. 0. Stover, a boy.
A. R. Bowman and A. W. Battles
were Culver visitors yesterday.
C. L. Roberts was in Frineville
on business the last of the week.
Fred Noble returned from The
Dalles last night with a new Buick
25 for Huff-Noble garage.
Buck Bowers was accidently shot
at Riley one day last week by Mr.
Clark, the merchant at that place.
Warren Brown and A. W. Battles
were guests of Lawyer Burdick at
a turkey dinner at Redmond Sun
day. The bowling tournament will
close tonight Tetherow's team
will probably win. Albert Noble
has highest score to date, 246 out
of a possible 300.
All who can furnish cars for the
trip from Redmond to Frineville
with the stockmen on the evening
of February 8 are requested to call
on or 'phone L. B. Lafollette.
Basket social at Upper McKay
schoolhouse, Feb. 5, 1915. A rous
ing program is being prepared for
the occasion. Everybody welcome
Boys bring the money; girls bring
the baskets.
Monday evening the Misses
Hodges entertained the Misses
Agnes Elliott, Ruth Hawley, Edith
Rice, Myrtle Jeffries and Mrs. Kal-
Ienberg at their home with a de-i
lightful card party.
All the regular services next
Sunday at the Christian church.
The Senior C. E. meeting at 6:30
p. m. has two special music num
bers. The subject of the evening
sermon is, "The Other Man's Sin."
A. L. Mackintosh was in Prine
ville the,first of fhe week from the
Hoffman place where he is feeding
two bands of sheep. He says that
they are wintering well. Mr.
Mackintosh is well pleased with the
- outlook for the sheep industry.
Word was received here Tuesday
that Mr. Adams, father of Mrs. E.
H. Smith, had died suddenly at the
family home in Portland. Mr. and
Mrs. Smith and Miss Adams, who
had been visiting her sister, left on
the evening train for Portland.
LOCAL MENTION
Born January 26, to the wife of
Edward Street, a girl.
Mrs. Michel is still in Portland.
She is getting along nicely.
Mrs. J. J. Schaefor relumed to
her home at Moro Saturday.
Three members of the third
grade James McNeoly, Velma
Shattuck and Eula Noble have
been neither absent nor tardy dur
ing the semester just closing.
Mrs. Addie Yancey bought the
Prose house on Second and East B.
street the last of the week. The
property was sold by Mrs. Ida
Prose. Consideration $4000.
This issue of the Journal is being
put out from our new location in
the Adamson building on Main
street. Our readers are invited to
drop in and look us over in our new
home.
Snow is falling over the greater
part of Crook county this morning.
An inch and a half is recorded at
Lamonta and to the south and west
reports are that the storm is
general.
G. N. Clifton announces under
date of January 26 that he will re
tire from the management of the
Clifton & Cornett company on
February 1. The company will go
on a cash basis after the above date.
C. W. Wilson has received his
first carload of 1915 Fords. They
were unloaded at Bend and five of
them were sold to people in this
part of the county. A second car
of eight machines arrived at Red
mond yesterday. He has contracted
to handle 32 Ford's, 16 Dodge cars
and 6 Studebakers. Mr. Wilson is
agent for these three makes.
The pupils of the third grade
have been receiving credits for
work done at home in the way of
chores, errands, helping with house
work and similar duties which
might aid in the formation of help
ful industrious habits. Those
deserving special commendation in
this line are Marian O'Kelly, Velma
Shattuck, James McNeely, Eula
Noble, Mike Trapman, Teddy Adam-
son, Weldon Hyde, Hester Constable.

LOCAL MENTION
I. M. Dlevins purchased a new
Ford car Monday.
The second term of the Prineville
public schools will begin next Mon
day. Born To the wife of Roy A.
Powell, of Ashwood, Monday, a
girl.
The biggest event of the year in
its line is announced by the K. of P.
Lodge in their annual ball which
will take place on February 19.
Water was struck on the W. F.
King place on the bench north of
this city last Tuesday at a depth of
135 feet. The water raised about
80 feet in the well.
J. E. Newbill of Grizzly, was in
Prineville this morning on business.
Mr. Newbill says tlat there is
plenty of moisture in his part of the
country, and that a record crop of
wheat for the farmers is assured.
W. H. Harbinson was brought in
from Jefferson county Saturday
night and lodged in the jail here
He is charged with assault upon his
wife. He was brought to Prine
ville by Ira Black, sheriff of Jeffer
son county.

K. E. I.ooney of Jefferson, is in
Prineville on business.
Born To the wife of J. E. Whist
ler, on aturdiiy, a girl.
O. L. Huff returned the last of
the week from Fife where ho went
to deliver a new 1915 Buick to Joe
Street.
0. 11. Applegate and wife of Al
bany, arrived in Prinoviilo yester
day, They expect to make their
home here.
C. A. Newbill was in Prineville
yesterday from Grizzly. He re
ports considerable snow on the north
slope of McKay mountain.
Mrs. Muttlo Miller of Portland, is
visiting Mrs. John Campbell of this
city. Mrs. Miller will remain in
Prineville for a couple of weeks.
G. W. Slay ton started to North
Portland this morning with two cars
of cattle. E. T. Slayton and George
Dixon shipped two cars each at the
same time.
