The people of Paulina and
vicinity have been having a series
of rabbit drives since Christmas.
On the 10th they drove at Beaver
ersek and got 1370 rabbits and on
the 11th they drove at the Grant
Miller place and got 947. This
makes over 6000 rabbits killed in
this vicinity since Christmas.
N. D. Elliott of Salem was in
Prineville Monday. Mr. Elliott is
a brother-in-law of Mrs. Edgar
Bundy and E. G. Hodson. He
stopped in Portland to see Mr.
Hodson on his way up and says Ed
is mending and will be normal
again before many weeks. Mr.
Elliott owns a large commercial
printing plant in Salem.
Lafler's Studio is to have some
medern improvements in the near
future to faciliate work in photog
raDhy and printing. An electric
photo printer has been ordered and
will be installed at once. A studio
light that will permit sittings at
night will be put in shortly. A line
of art and novelty goods will be
added in the spring.
All members of the Ladies'
Annex are requested to be present
next Tuesday afternoon for a grand
bowling contest. Mrs C. M- Elkins
and Mrs- 0. C. Claypool will captain
opposing teams. High scores are
looked for.
The basketball game Friday
night between the C. C. H. S. and
the Redmond team resulted in an
easy victory for the home players.
The visitors started well but did
not have the training to play a fast
game to the finish. The score was
57 to 21.
County court is holding longer
than usual this term. Many matters
of importance are up for consider
ation. The new officers are taking
considerable time to look into all
matters of importance. The Journal
will publish complete proceedings
of the current term next week.
Baptist Church.
Died.
Joseph P. flunsaker, one of the
pioneers of Crook county, died at
the home of his son, John Hun
saker, in this city yesterday.
Mr. Hunsaker was born in
Illinois on February 11, 1827. He
made two trips across the plains
from Illinois to Oregon by ox team,
arriving the second time at Oregon
City in 1853. In 1873, Mr. Hun
saker settled in what is now Crook
county and has made his home here
since that time.
He leaves four children John
Hunsaker, Mrs. J. H. Gray and
Mrs. Ida Merideth of Prineville,
and Mrs. Alice Oman of Portland.

Mrs. John Iewis of Grizzly is
dangerously sick of typhoid fever.
Mrs. C. Newbill of Grizzly is suf
fering from an attack of typhoid.
She is at the home of Mrs. Hanna
Dee in this city.
The Ladies' Annex has two classes

tics from Mrs. Newham.who studied
at Oxford, England.
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Elkins re
turned from Portland the first of
the week. Mr. Elkins was a dele
gate to th? irrigation congress.
John Mclennan of Antelope was
a business visitor Monday. Mr.
McLennan says that thete is a foot
and half of snow on the summit of
the mountain south of Ash wood.
