Fair Association
Elect New Officers
The Crook County Fair Assoc!
tion held its annual meeting Mon
day. A board of directors was
elected for the coming year and
other important business trans
acted. Henry McCall, K. T. Slayton and
J. H. Shlpp are the new board.
There will bo a meeting of this
board in a few days and a president
nnd secretary will bo chosen fur the
coming year.
l'lans for the fair were discussed
and more publicity, earlier publi
cation and a revision of the
premium list, later date for the
fair ami n numlier of other things
were recommended to the new
board. 1'rcpare for a good fair
next fall.
Funny Film at Lyric
If parents want their children to
see a genuinely funny picture which
will greatly please the youngsters
as well as themselves, they should
take them to tho Lyric Thursday or
Friday evening this week to nee the
Keystone two-reel picture being
featured there. It is acted through
out by children, there being tho
usual hero, heroine, villian, etc,
and there Is certainly a most ex
citing chase by a miniature loco
motive, a handcar and a team of
Shetland ponies.

Sheriff Chrisman accompanied
Marks to his ranch and l'ettis sur
rendered. Pettis then was taken
to tho Hrown ranch on the Des
chutes river, arriving there at day
light. Pettis told Marks ho was
afraid that Hrown was going to try
and get his recently filed-on home
stead awav from him. liefore leav
ing after the shooting Pettis
searched tho house and hid 1-10
worth of postage stamps he had
found, lie told the sherilT ho did
not want anyone else to get them
while he was away. Pettis had
hung the mail sack on the crane in
the morning, as Mr. Hrown had
ordered. It is believed Pettis be
came crazed by drinking a quantity
-of liquor left at tho Iirown ranch
by fishermen.
While at Gateway, Prown had
bought a watch for Pettis, having
it in his grip when slain.

Supt. II C. Baughman is corre
sponding with a number of young
people who expect to enter high
school the next semester. The in
dications are that the school will be
filled to overflowing at that time as
every seat in tho assembly is now
occupied and there is no room for
more.

railroads acting as common carriers,
including intra state lines compet
ing with them, constitutionality
