NINE MEN LOSE LIVES
Vienna. A military aeroplane accl
dentally rammed an Austrian army

between Enxersdorf and Hschnmeud,
sinking the great airship but Itself
going down to destruction a a result
of the accident, with a total loss of
nine live.
The two air craft were 2500 feet
aloft when the accident occurred. The
aeroplane was swooping past the diri
gible with a aufe margin of dlstnnce
between the two when It suddenly
swerved almost at right angles, pre
sumably due to some mishap to the
steering gear, and plunged at fall
speed Into the big gas bag amidships.
There was a terrific explosion and
the airship took fire. The flames en
gulfed the biplane and in a few mo
menta the remnants of both craft with
their occupant crashed on the slope
of a mountain.
The seven men on bonrd the diri
gible nnd the two with the aeroplane
were all dead before those who rushed
to aid them reached tho spot It was
impossible to tell whether they were
burned to death before they atruck
the ground or were killed by their
fall.

designated a tract of 2S4.OO0 acres of
land In Oregon for entry under the en
larged homestead law. Most of the

Interpreting the county division law
for Q. B. rutnam of Bend, Attorney-
General Crawford holds that If a coun
ty is to be divided into three counties,
each of the two new counties must
receive 65 per cent of the vote cast
In its proposed boundaries, and 35 per
cent of the. vote cast In the balance
of the territory, including the other
proposed new county. In other words,
the attorney-general holds that when
two new counties are being created
at the same time out of one county the
percentage of the vote that must be
obtained is the samo for each pro
posed new county as though only one
county was being 'created.
"We want to everlastingly kill off
single tax; that's what this measure
Is for," declared T. J. Fording, of Port
land, when he submitted a copy of a
proposed constitutional amendment to
the secretary of state. The measure,
which Mr. Fording said would he Ini
tialed, bears the name of David M.
Dunne. It proposes to amend section
1 of article IX of the constitution. The
measure provides that no property, to
exceed In value the sum of $300, shall
be exempted from taxation, and that
this provision, when Once adopted,
shall never be amended, except by
two-thirds vote of all the electors who
may participate in any general or spe
cial election wherein a change in the
system of assessment and taxation is
proposed.
