BORDER BALLAD.
March, march, Fttriek and Tevi
otdalo: Why the 1'0'il diima ye march
forward in order?
March, march, Eskdale ami I.id-
tiesdale!
All the Hh:e Bonnets are over
the border!
Many a banner spread
Flutters above yor.r head.
Many a crest that is famous in
story :
Mount and make ready, then,
Sous of the mountain glen!
Tight for the queen and our old
Scottish glory!
Come from the hilis where your
hirsels are grazing:
Come from the glen of the buck
and the roe:
Come to the eras w here the bea
con is blazing;
Come with the buckler, the lance
and the 1k
Trui.ipets are sounding;
War steeds are bounding.
Stand to your anus and march
in good order.
England shall many a day
Tell of the bloody fray
When the Blue Bonnets came
over the border.
Sir Walter Scott.
PROFIT SHARING.
The question is. Can we go on
still furtl
rtker with the wage sys
aa democracy? 1 think
tern and
not. We have seen for twenty
years the growing hostility be
tween these two camps labor
and capital. Vmler the wage
system it was inevitable that
there should be two forces. We
have tried various devices to end
this strife arbitration of vari
ous hinds and the Canadian sys
tem. An industrial method
which gives the workman cr op
erative the same motive and in
terest which the owner feels is
the thing that is desirable that
is, the road to eflicieii'-y to in
crease not only a single trade
like yours, but the efficiency and
happiness of toe whole people.
How do it? Perhaps you'll think
I'm not sticking to my subject.
Hut I am, for I firmly believe
the only road to efficiency is
profit sharing. I r. Charles W.
Eliot.
EEFORE I SLEEP.
Just before I go to sleep.
Like a flame across the sword.
Silently the fancies creep,
Golden fancies, gem bestarr'd
Just before I go to sleep.
Just before I go to sleep
All the brightest flowers bloom,
And the heart Itself must weep
Su' h the music fills the room
Just 1 i.-foie 1 go to sleep.
Just before I go to sleep

things
Into nothingness may leap
Ere u dream can spread Its

CHURCH ARISTOCRATIC.
The wage earner has small
voice iu the matter. The modem
church is seldom organized so as
to reach him. lie has dropped
the chiiren at least, the Prot
estant churches or the churches
have dropped him. The churches
are dying of dry rot. yet within
them few seem to "realize why.
That cause largely lies iu the
conservative determination to in
sist on various credal platforms,
and twice this policy Is adopted
the exodus of the progressive
part of the church membership Is
only a question of time. The
rhurt h does not represent today
the whole people ns once It did.
Disheartened by its proved im
mobility, its would be reformers
have left it or have been driven
forth from it. Its Standpatters'

ONE NEVER CAN TELL.
There were seven men, there
were seven minds.
There were seven humans of
seven kinds;
And none who bad known In
early d:iys
These men who traveled their
seven ways
Would have tuought that t"
crook would a parson he
Or the knave would take up
humanity.
But you never can tell and the
moral is here:
Don't accept tilings always as
they appear.
For under the gristle and skin
and hone
Is something that works in a
way of its own
And you never know the saint
from the knave
This side of the edge of the com
mon grave.
