PRINEVILLE, ORE Sudden Death of Editor A: H. Kennedy A. H. Kensedy, editor of the Prineville Review, died suddenly Tuesday evening, aged 45 years. Editor Kennedy had been suffer ing from inflammation of the eyes for some time but none of his friends thought that anything serious was the matter. Last Sat urday, however, more alarming symptoms set in and Tuesday evening he passed quietly away while asleep. Mr. Kennedy was married to Mina AVilmartb December 15, 1908. Beiides his widow, be leaves a mother, Mrs. Caroline Kennedy, of Arleta, Oregon; a brother, Fred Kennedy, of The Dalles; anl two sisters, Mrs. Marion Davis and Mrs. Louis Benhcky. Bro. Kennedy was a member of the Modern Woodmen and carried a life insurance of $3000. He will be buried tomorrow (Friday) at 2:30 p. m. from the Baptist chuieh. There was a good attendance at the school meeting Monday to elect a successor to Dr. Belknap. As a usual thing people do not take much interest in school affairs seemingly satisfied to shift the re sponsibility upon the other fellow This wasn't the case Monday. In stead there was a good attendance of ladies and a fair representation of men. The object of the meeting was announced by the chairman and nominations to fill the vacancy on the board commenced. Mrs. Earl McLaughlin was the first to be placed in nomination and she was followed by the nomination of Carey W. Foster. It was a nip and tuck race between the candidates right up to the close of ballot counting. At one time Mrs. Mcr Laughlin led by five votes but toward the close Mr. Foster forged ahead and won by one vote. The official count stood: Mr. Foster 17, Mrs. McLaughlin, 16. Mr. Foster will serve Dr. Bel- Knap s unexpired term wnicn runs until next June. Mr. Foster is chairman of the board. After the school meeting many of the parents and other taxpayers visited the different grades in the public schools and expressed them selves as well pleased with the work that was being done. . Members of the public school board spent the greater part of Monday examining the work of the different grades. They found both pupils and teachers interested and working along their various lines. They were especially pleased with the orderly way in which the pupils marched in and out of the building. The shildren kept excellent time to the music which was furnished by Dale Elkins. Myers, a daughter. Mrs. V. H. Kirkham of John sen creek died Tuesday night. She was buried in Prineville this fore noon. Judge Sprineer has been in' formed by the O. A. C. officials that Crook is in line for a county field man during the coming year. Chas. E. Roberts has entered the field for the office of city marshal. This makes a three-cornered fight between Roberts, Coon and Bal four. The littl friends of Roland Stearns gave a very enjoyable birthday party at bis borne Satur day afternoon in honor of bis 9th birthday. F. C.Park, an old-time attorney of Great Falls, Mont., turned up in Prineville the other day. He is now a Crook county rancher. His place is near Madras. There will be a good fellowship meeting at the Commercial Club rooms Wednesday evening. You are all invited. Turn out and have a good time. There will be a Club dance Sat urday evening, Deeember 6, at the Club Hall. .This is the first dance of a series to be given this winter and the management is trying bard to make it a big success. ' Mrs. Black of Baker, a sister of Mrs. WI. Dishman, is here on a visit. Mrs. Black will remain un til the return of Mr. and Mrs. Dishman, who will leave Sunday for Portland to attend the big stock show. A. A. Co., was a week-end business visitor to Prineville. Joe Smelzer is expected home this week. He has been greatly benefited by the operation per formed at Portland. The K. r. dance last week was one of the largest and best' ar ranged affairs held in Prineville for a long time. Every Sir Knight made it a personal matter to see that all guests enjoyed themselves to the limit. Mrs. Isora Cleek came in from Albany Tuesday and left the fol lowing day for Lamonta to be with her father, C. Montgomery, who is dangerously ill.
