Crenwell, Oregon,
To the l'.illtor of the Crook County
Journal:
You linked me to write you a letter
for publication, and although It hitu
lnt'ii some time since 1 arrived here I
will take this opportunity to write
to you.
The crops here this summer were
first rate. My crop whs better than
I ei)tcted It to tie when I first came.
1 am selling my baled hay her at
the ranch tor f 11 per ton.
Berries and fruit grow line. One
man here at Creswell bos Just finished
harvesting an Immense crop of
prunes. Three large dries were kept
busy night and day for a month.
He Is now picking and packing his
apples. He expecU 4000 boxes of
good marketable apples. There
are a number of young orchards
around Creswell, but are too young
to bear. One of them, a walnut
orchard, across the road from my
ranch Just sold for f 400 per acre.
Clover raining Is alno fast gaining
popularity. My clover that I put
out this spring Is up and I have
been pasturing my milch cows on It
this fall.
We have had Just enough rain this
fall to prepare the ground good tor
farming. The fields and pastures
are nil ns green as If It were spring
I have finished my lull seeding and It
Is all up nicely.
The hunting Is good here. During
the pheasant season we would go
out with our guns and dogs and
come back tu the evening well loaded
with game. Deer hunting Is also
good In the foothills close to Ores,
well.
My health Is so much better here
than It was out there. Now I can
work from morning until night as I
did years ago. Though we all still
hn ve a very warm spot In our hearts
for old Crook county, we are well
pteaticd with our change.
I could write this much more In
praise of this country but tor fear of
the waste basket will close, I am,
yours very respectfully,
Jkhhk L. Winiiom.
