Amendment Mads to Currency Bill.
Tha agricultural currency amend
ment to tha administration currency
bill was adopted by the house Demo
cratic cauoua. After several prelim
inary skirmishes, In which other
amendments were beaten, tha caucus,
without a dissenting voto, adopted an
amendment agreed to both by the
"Insurgent" contingent and the bank
ing nnd currency committee, to put
paper based on agricultural products
on tho same bnsls aa commercial pa
por for bnnklng purposes. It also
would extend the maturity of notes
and bills admitted to discount, under
the amendment, to 90 days, Instead
of the originally proposed 60 dnys.
This action disposed of the Inst of
the big controversial issues In the ad
ministration currency bill.

can Hankers' association and chairman
of tha conference, will Journey to
Washington to ask amendments to tba
present bill, tha most Important of
which are these:
Taking from the president the pow
er of appointing all aeven of tha mem
bers of the federal reserve board,
whlcb will dominate tha currency sit
uation and substituting a provision
that three of the seven members shall
be appointed by the president; three
ba named by the directors of tha pro
posed federal reserve banks and that
the seventh shall be the secretary of
tba treasury, who shall be a member
ex officio.
Creating one great central bank. In
stead of the 12 regional reserve banks
provided for In the Owen-Gluss bill;
or If this be not obtainable, creating
as few as poaalble and not more than
five.

Harry K. Thaw In his cell at Sher
brooke, Queboo, Dr. Joseph Noel, the
Jail physician, pronounced him as per
tectly snno. His verdict Is expected

Thaw's fight for freedom.
Upon recommendation of the state
board of pardons, Governor Dunne, of
Illinois, has refused to commute the
sentence of Evelyn Arthur See, the
high priest of the "Absolute Life" cult.

San Francisco on four of six counts,
