The desert land board has certi

the Central Oretfon Irrigation Com

4309.33 acres of land. The govern

patents to the state, which will turn
them over to settlers.
IN OCR IGNORANCE.
Said a woman of my aiitmiintanre:
"Lust jvar my bi'atximt a III. mill
my daughter I ihrpaivned with
tuberculosis. Living etpt'nws are high,
ml aiv husband' Mlary Is only $1,000
year Why should we be put Into
the world to suffer no! Ufe 1 really
not worth lue living sometimes."
This wotnun lived In her own house
and luil never laoked for the necosaa
rtes of life.
Now
The problem of suffering, like that of
in. la an old one. but to thiuk one I
luckless beyond others is wrong- One
has only to look about him to find
many of his fellows worse off.
lrlvation SnrVring?
Why. thla woman had never lived In
ntnishaokle tenement up rickety
stairs. Her htiskmd never bad come
borne from the sai.Hij .iround the eor
ner with empty poke! hook and loaded
with liquor to drive her with curses to
the street.
IVprivation?
This i-oniplaininc woman did not live
to a two rootn a id i-i.wet airtmeot.
where you buy oval by the scuttleful.
bread by the half loaf aud Ice by the
pound delivery.
Poverty?
She h id never haunted the butobr-r
shops late on Saturday nlirltt. when the
rery vir d their pitiful shoppini:. to
buy for almost nnhnii; the remnant
that will unt keep until Monday to
putvh.ise for a nny or two a eoup
bone or a ne k of mutton.
.No She did not know.
She did not know that to find a quar
ter of a dollar for the slot of the fas
meter may become a huamial problem
tod that the monthly rent day may
become a real trgi dy.
.No
S!ie never had heard her children cry
of cold in the winter nor moan of thirst
in the summer t.-ute. She never had
partly to starve a living child to pay
the funeral espouses of a dead one.
Now-
1 make no doubt my -orupinhioit
acarcely would heiieve that thousand
live the life I have nlnted at. because
"one half the world does not Luuw
how the other half lives."
That's the point- we complain out of
ignorance.
We. all of us, are like the woman.
TVe have our troubles and visitations,
but It Is only necessary that we should
go along the atieet with wide open
eyes to find dozens of people whose
condition la infinitely worse than ours.

is really a dish for an epicure especially if you buy the "finney"
from us. All our fish have the habit of coming straight here
from theirnative element without hanging around elsewhere,
losing their freshness and flavor. Shell-Fish a specialty in the
season, but we keep nothing out of season, so you are always sure
of a sweet smell here. Moderate prices, too.
