Northern Railway's agricultural
expert, is coming to Central Oregon
to deliver a series of addresses on
agricultural topics. He will be in
Trineville Wednesday, May 21, and
will speak at Club Hall at 2 o'clock
in we atiernoon. r.ver,oouy m-
vited. Farmers are requested to
send in a list of questions. Tell
him your troubles. He can help
you. Mail all subjects to John R.
Stinson, Prineville. Oregon, and he
will forward them to the professor
so that the answers may be read at

Bond's buildings. Gray's Inn. Next
day he saw an advertisement In the
Times: "J. M. U Say. who cut It ? Was
It your own hand or the deed of an
other? Confess ere It be too late."
It was only the first of a series of sim
ilar announcements, and the Ingenuity
of his tormentors devised continual
surprises for him. On the day be
went down to Chertsey races he sa
the walla placarded with enormous
posters, yellow and black: "J. M. U

' strels was furnished with a melody to
' sing outside Raymond's buildings to
the air of "What Are the Wild Waves
Saying?" then very popular. And the
refrain was:

What are dem wtld wave aaylng? Dey
say. Who cut Joe hair?
In despair. Langford went abroad.
and when, at Chanjontx, he climbed to
the Cascade des Pelerlns be found
plastered in front of him a huge yel
low poster bearing the words: "J. M,
L. Confess, reveal, or be forever
lost! Who cut it?' Joe's spirit was
broken. He sat down and wrote a
humble letter to Albert Smith: "1
yield. Spare me. My hair was cut In
St Martin's court at the barber's on
the left band side. His charge was
threepence. I am quite beaten."
An Original Ad.
A Chinese, George tee, who has
laundry In Providence, R. I., says the
Journal of that city, has a sign in his
window soliciting patronage that is a
gem of its kind. It reads somewhat aa
follows:
"George Lee, Hand Washing Chi
nese, first Glass Laundry, all change,
New Man working In here. Has not
yet before peoples. I am come From
Boston. Was Wash every Pay, except
Saturday and Sunday. I make you all
everything clean and Beautiful. I am
better lose sum of them again who-

opening 5 o'clock in the morning and

The sign has attracted much atten
tion, and few pass the place without
resiling It over and over.

Metolius Must Cut
Out the Liquor
Palom, Or., May ti. Under the
guise of law, the town of Metolius
in Crook county, hold a local option
election in rVhrtary, voted wet, and
is now MrmittinK the sale of liquor.
Governor West today notified the
deputy district attorney and sheriff
of Crook county and the mayor of
Metolius that the liquor was being
sold illegally and he expected them
to enforce the laws.
Metolius is in a dry precinrt. I-ast
IVccmU-r the town voted to inwr
porate. Shortly after the county
court granted a petition for a home
rule election in the newly Incorpor-
ated town. The election was held
in February and the town voted
wet.
Prior to the election Attorney
General Crawford , rendered an
opinion in which he held that an
election could not I held under the
home rule amendment except In
November, and even though the
