Find Government Action I Too Slow
To Get Retultt
Salem. Governor West is going af

he was going to Lee they were cleaned
out In the past the question has
been raised whether it was the duty
of the federal government or the state
to apprehend and prosecute persons
guilty of selling liquor to Indians on
their reservations. The responsibility
has been shifted first on the shoulders
of one and then the other, with the
result that it is said bootlegging has
thrived,
The question as to who should be
responsible was recently raiBed on the
Siletz reservation. The governor look
ed up the matter and found the state
should take just as active a hand as
the government Therefore he Is writ
ing to district attorneys to get busy.
The matter will also be taken up with
the federal authorities so there may
be co-operation.
