LOCAL MENTION B. F. Allen is hore from Portland. J. F. Blanchard is down with typhoid fever. Born OctolxT 23, to the wife of Otto Gray, boy. Frank Cram of Hood River was in Prineville last week. R. V, Jenkins and family of Mad ras spent fair week in Prineville. G. V. Estes was home from Stevenson, Wash., on a Visit last week. Mrs. McClum, mother of James McClum, died Monday night on the homestead north of town Chas. F. Stahl and Eva F. Brown of Redmond were married last Sat urday evening at the Presbyterian manse by Rev. Prater. Prineville and Bend will contend for football honors on the high school grounds next Saturday after noon at 2:30 sharp. Dr. Harry Lane, democratic can didate for United States senator, spoke to a crowded house at Club Hall Wednesday evening. Dr. Lane is an able speaker and held the at tention of his audience from start to finish. W. C. Wilkes of rorUand, as sistant general freight and passen ger agent of the Hill lines, was at tending the county fair last week. The exhibits, both cattle and vege tables, were a great revelation to him, he says. The time of the circuit court was taken up this week with the Sax ton vs. Barber case, wherein plaintiff seeks to recover 130,000 for aliena tion of his wife's affections. The jury reported this morning and gave Plaintiff Saxton $1000. Herbert Rideout came in from Portland Monday evening. Since selling the Fairview Stock Farm Herbert has bought ten acres near Portland where he will go into the poultry business. He is just get ting things fixed up to breed fancy stock. Several of the ladies have donated their services for a dinner to be given on the evening of Election Day receipts to be applied to the M. W. A. band instrument fund. Fur ther announcement next week. The boys will give their usual street con cert Saturday evening, 7:30 sharp. Mr. Carey, a brother of Mrs. W A, Booth, is here on a visit from Salem. The ladies of the Annex will give a ball Halloe'en night, October 31 Lunch will be served in the hall. Dr. T. A. Long and the family of W. R. Cook motored down from Madras and spent a couple of days at the fair. Kev. Turner, editor of the Madras Pioneer, and republican can didate for county clerk, spent Fri day and Saturday in Prineville. Dr. Ida Behrendt, the eyesight specialist, who was obliged to re main in Prineville during fair week, will be here until Monday, Oct. 28 Those wishing her services will have until that date to see her. O. P. Hoff, state commissioner of labor and factory inspector, is in Prineville this week. He is prose cuting the county court for violat ing the 8-hour law in permitting road supervisors to work men nine hours a day. Geo. Rodman, an old timer in the Culver neighborhood, was among the visitors at the fair with money to spend, the result of harvesting something like 11,000 bushels of wheat and barley from a 370-acre tract. The spud crop in the Culver coun try was such a bumper that two new warehouses have been erected at Culver to accommodate the tub ers while awaiting marketing. Frank Mann of White Salmon, who is an extensive potato grower in Crook county, has built a t000 structure to house his own crop of some 10,000 bushels, and the other week to cattle growers. Last year building still larger, is being put up the Bonnyview Stock Farm shipped some registered stuff over there. Crook county's " reputation as a breeder of fancy cattle is being noised around. by the Culver Potato Warehouse Co. Wheat is taxing the capacity of the two grain storage plants and Culver will soon present the appearance of a genuine "warehouse town." Elmer Clark Shoots Himself Elmer Clark shot himself about noon Saturday with suicidal intent. He fired ihree shots, as near as the doctors could make out, from a 25 20 rifle. Two shots took effect un der the chin and the other was fired into the mouth, which blew off the top of his head. Despondency i3 given as the cause. Drs. Edwards and Hyde summoned a jury which brought in a verdict of suicide. Clark was cooking for Dell Eads, who has a government contract for building a drift fence on the re serve. He was buried from the Presbyterian church Monday. P. B. Howard Drops Dead P. B. Howard dropped dead Sat urday afternoon at the fair grounds. He had been troubled for a long time with heart disease. The end came without warning while ap parently enjoying good health. He was born near Oakland, Calif., 52 years ago. Besides a widow, he leaves two daughters Mrs. Harry Lanius of Howard, and Mrs. Carl Windom of Culver. He was buried Monday. Death of Stowell Cram. Stowell Cram, who was struck by the aeroplane last Wednesday, died Friday night. Drs. Edwards and Hyde held an autopsy to discover the immediate cause of death. They found no fracture of the skull ! caused by the striking of the aero plane tip, but did find a ruptured ' blood vessel that produced hemor rhage of the brain. There was very little hemorrhage on the side struck by the machine. The doctors thought the ruptured blood vessel was caused by the fall to the ground. The coroner's jury brought in a verdict that the death of Stowell Cram was due to a fall after being Btruck by an aeroplane piloted by Silas Christofferson, but exonerated him from all blame.
