United State Sena tor Bourne, unsuccessful aspirant for the Republican nomination last April, has announced that he would be an Independent candidate to succeed him self. The name ot Senator Bourne, who Issued a formal statement Mon day, accepting the proffered nomina tion, will appear on the official ballot ss the "popular government" candidate. GOULD BAGGAGE IS SEIZED Trunk and Contents Are Said to Be Worth $400,000. New York. Thirty-six pieces of baggage which Frank J. Gould, his wife and her three sisters brought to America when they arrived from France nre being held up by the cus toms authorities. With their contents of gems and gowns the trunks and cases nre said to be valued at $400,000. The seizure ot the baggage has been made upon a technicality. Mr. Gould contended he was entitled to have the baggage all entered free under the non-resident clause of the customs laws giving Buch right to an American who for two years has maintained a bona-flde residence abroad. The cus toms authorities claim that Gould Is not strictly In the non-resident class. It Is understood that Collector ot Port Loeb personally ordered the seiz ure pending a settlement of Mr. Gould's status. Aviator Sets New Mark. Annapolis, Md. A new American record for am endurance flight waa made here In a hydro-aeroplane by John H. Towers, a lieutenant of the navy aviation corps. He was continu ously In the air tor 6 hours, 10 min utes, 35 seconds. The best previous American record, made by Paul Peck, was 4 hours, 23 mlhutea, 28 seconds.
