Little Rexie Clark was given a
lawn party by 'twenty-three of his
little playmates, his teachers and
friends in honor wf his ninth birth
day May UOth. . The afternoon was
spent in basketlmll, baseball, racing,
etc. Refreshments were , served.
The most attractive thing for the
children was a large "watermelon"
cake, adorned with nine burning
candles and containing a ring inside.

Mrs. E. N. Strong was the guest

party given by Mrs. John R. Stin
on last week. The occasion was
greatly enjoyed by those present. !
Mr. Henry L. Sly of California
andMiss Addie Andrews of Crook
county, were married by Rev. John
E. Williams at the home of J. R.
Breese on Combs' Flat Sunday after
jioon. The young couple will make
their home in California.
Mr. James Elkins came up from
California last week to spend ' the
summer with his sons in Prineville.
He thinks California is a wonderful
state but an Oregonian is never
satisfied anywhere but in Oregon,
He has lived 58 years in this state.
He says that he passed through
Prineville when there was no Prine
ville. This was in 1864. Barney
Prine had a blacksmith shop here

Mrs. Hugh Lister and family will
move out to the ranch Saturday.

ranch at Meadows the first of the

Clarence D. Rice left the first of
the week for a visit of a couple of
weeks to Fossil, Wash.
About a million pounds of wool
were sold at Heppner Tuesday at
prices ranging from 14 to 18 cents.
Mrs. Fred A. Rice will repre
sent the Prineville lodge at the
Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star
which meets at Portland next week.
Mrs. J. M. Hamilton has work
men engaged in improving her

streets. Large dormer windows
are being put in and the second
story cut up into bedrooms.
State Engineer Lewis and Prof.
Caustland of the University of
Washington were in Prineville the
first of the week. They are mak
ing an examination and study of the
voters of the Deschutes and its
tributaries in connection with the
United States Geological Survey.
A couple of teams loaded with
wool belonging to Porfily & Maben,
passed through Prineville Tuesday
on their way to the railroad. One
of the loads tipped over at the fair
grounds. It struck an overflow
from an irrigation ditch. The
driver had not got through cussing
when they pulled into Prineville for
dinner. For the sake1 of their
church standing better fix the break
in the ditch.
