Clerk's Office More
Than Self-Sustaining
It it not generally known but it
s a fact that the county clerk's
affice is more than eslf-suetaining.
It UVea in at least a third more in
fee than it costs the county to
maintain it. In the year 1011
nearly f 7000 was received in fee.
The exact figures are 16970.3$
This is an average of foSO.Slil a
mouth. The expenses of the oilice
average about two-third? of this
amount.
The receipts for 1910 were near
ly at great as for lasit year. Some
lt!$o9 65 was taken in by County
Clerk Brown. This means lots of
painstaking work of ths most el
iding kind.

Kissed one of the treats of the sea
son. Just after the degree was
conferred on Sheriff Balfour and
wife, the back door was suddenly
tiuust open and in trooped the
semoers of the subordinate lodge
with thsir arms burdened with
delicious cakes and bearing a huge
ireezer of ice cream.
After the first burst of surprise a
itarty cheer was given the visitors
and a recess was declared.
Needless to say, a good time was
indulged in until the midnight
itur. Come again brothers. You
will always find the back door unlocked.
trading was the sale late in the
afternoon of two loads of high-
grade steers at fti 35, which is :
10 cents better thau the top
price of the early part of the
week. A load of choice cows
sold at $ 5 35. The Livestock j
Reporter says of the course of;
the cattle market so far this
week:
"The big feature of the cattle I
market was the advanced regist- j
ered on choice steers. Some of;
tho best heavy, finished bullocks
seen here for a month were offer- i
ed the killers and did not have to j
lose auy time on the way to tho i
shambles. The bulk of steer!
sales was also higher than last
week and it was evident beef
buyers were eager for choice ;
stock but not averse to taking !
the poorer grades providing a
fresh deluge would not be pre
cipitated. Butcher stock was
really second choice with the buy
ers, chieffy because cow and
heifer stuff was not offering very
freely and representative sales
were not as large comparatively
as the previous period. Veal
market was steady to strong with
few calves offering and every
thing snapped up.
