been in the hospital, will be able

Miss Junita Endahl of Seaside,
Wash., came in Friday. She will
teach the fourth grade in the

Mrs. K. R. 'Masters of Rocky
Ford, Colorado, mother of Mrs.
Lewis Wylde, arrived lust atur

that will open an engagement at
I'rineville next Monday evening
will reorganize here. Margaret
lies herself leaves the company to
star in the East in a plav written
especially for her. The I'rineville
engagement that opens October 9,
will be the last chance to see this
popular actress for some time.

II. L. Stewart of Cambridge,
Idaho, an old resident of Crook
county, is here on a visit to his
mother. He says he likes Oregon
all right, but is fond of Idaho.
Work has commenced on John
Combs' new bungalow on Second
street. John bought the Hrink lot
between Recorder Hreese's place
and J. W, Hoone. Pancake has
the contract.
Ross Robinson of Weiser, Idaho,
has succeeded to tho position left
vacant by the resignation of Ed
Masse in the C. W. Elkins store.
Mr. Masse returned to his old job
in Portland.
J. H. Windom left Monday for
Portland to receive medical at
tention. (ieorge Luckey accom
nanled him. Mr. Windom's con
dition was such that he required
the attention of a nurse.
LOCAL MENTION
Mrs. J. II. Haner and her sister,
Mrs. Dudley, left for Portland the
last of the week. Mrs. Dudley
will continue on her way to her
home in the South. Mrs. Haner
is expected home the laBt of the
week.
Rev. Gregg, state evangelist for
the Christian church, who has been
holding revival meetings at Post,
has returned to I'rineville. A
Christian church with 33 members
was organized at Post, also an En
deavor Society.
A very pleasant evening was
spent at the club rooms last Fri
day. The Ladies' Annex had ti e
affair in hand and left nothing
undone to miiko the first social this
fall a complete success. There
were cards, games and refresh
ments. It was decided at a meeting of
the Christian church Monday to
have a series of revival meetings
to begin February 1st. A singing
evangelist will be here. These
meetings were to be held earlier
but as they would conflict with
the revival meetings of other
churches it was decided to pospone
them until the.February date.
Dr. Helknap returned from his
trip to Portland Saiurday night.
Superintendent Ford is moving
into the Marks hou-e on the notth
side.
Warren Hrown returned Mon
day from a two-weeks' visit to Hot
Lake,
Miss Wilbur returned Monday
from a week's slay at the home of
Otto (iray.
Itov. Gregg of the Christian
church, will preach in I'rineville
October 15.

Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Williams
left Monday for a visit of ten days

The Crook County High School
football squad will leave tomorrow
for Rend where they will play the

W. Post of Post, came down for
supplies the first of the week.
The recent rains have been a great
thing for grass in his section.
Well matured potatoes that were
sown after July 4 are being shown
from the Powell Rutte country.
They are of good size and quality.
Twins a boy and a girl, were
born to the wife of L, D. Osborn of
Powell Butte, on October 1. The
boy weighs 7 and the girl 6
pounds.
Miss Louise Summers, who is
studying to become a trained nurse
at the Good Samaritan Hospital
in Portland, is home on a va
cation. She will be here three
weeks.
Alex. Mackintosh of Portland,
came in the last of the week to at
tend the celebrations throughout
Central Oregon, lie expected to
go to BurtiB but the condition cf
the roads prevented.
John Stordahl and ( has. F. Con
dart have bought the stock of
goods of W. S. Cooke in the Ma
sonic building. I he new pro
prietors have bad some experience

Rutte will hold a basket social it
the school house at that place on
Saturday, Octolwr 7 at 7 o'clock p.
m. The proceeds will be used to
pay for the organ. Everybody

II. W. Harlin came down from
Roberts yesterday. He says that
the recent rains have been unusual
and that if warm weather sets in
the ranges will be fine. He has
lived in the county 24 years, and
says the prospects look brighter
now than at any other time dur
ing that period.
Frank Hackleman wai a Prine
ville visitor Monday on his way
home to Albany. Mr. Hackle
man stated that the cattlemen of
Crook county have just about
sold themselves out of stock ow
ing to the good prices, and that
many of them would have to feed
sheep this winter in order to
realize on their hay crops.
The dwelling and contents of
Logan McPherBon of Powell Butte,
was totally destroyed by fire last
Friday. How the fire started is
not known. Mrs. Mcl'herson was
the only one at home at the time.
This is the third fire that Mr. Mc
Pberson has had in a year. He
lot two barns and his house.
There was no insurance.

Circuit court convenes October

Jack Harris was up from Mad
ras the first of the week.
Friday, October 13. is schoil
day at the fair. All children
must be in line to get in free.
Teachers' Institute next week.
It will be held October 11, 12 and
13. An attractive program has
been arranged by the county
superintendent. All persons in
terested in our public schools
are invited to attend the sessions
of the Institute.
A double wedding occurred in
the parlor of Hotel Prineville
yesterday afternoon, when Geo.
H. Hutchins and Leona M. Kuhne
and Alfred W. Howell Bnd Ida
Li nd back were united in mar
riage by Judge Kennedy. All
the parties were from Bend.
There was a good attendance
at the regular meeting of the
Ladies' Annex Tuesday. Many
subjects engaered the attention of
the ladies. They purchased a
piano for their handsome club
rooms. The matter oi giving an
"at home" at the Club once a
month for the benefit of strang
ers was discussed. This was
thought a good plan to bring out
the strangers so tbey could get
acquainted. The matter will be
taken up later.

ing The design was neatly exe
cuted and was a credit to the
hotel and the occasion.
The baseball games during the
fair will be played on the Com
mercial Club grounds. Prine
ville will cross bats with the- fast
Weonas of Portland. The games
will be pulled off in the forenoon
so a3 not to interfere with visit
ing the fair in the afternoon.
The games are given under the
auspices of the fair managements
Mr. Shattuck and family re
turned last Thursday evening
from an extended trip in his
Ford car. They were away"
three weeks. The first day out
from Prineville they made Foster
over in the Willamette valley

Independence, Toledo, Newport
Monmouth, Newberg and Portland.-
On their way home Mr,
Shattuck shipped his car to The
Dalles by boat. The little Fori
made the trip without mishap.
Mr. Shattuck saw no town that
had anything on Prineville in
business way.
