The fire department was called
out at an curly hour Wednesday
morning caused by a fire in the
Chinese laundry just back of Johu
Morris' store. It was soon put out
but not before the building was
badly damaged. The fire caught
from the kitchen stove.
The Oregon Central Telephone
Co. has filed articles of incorpora
tion with the county clerk. The
incorporators are Louis Doonar, C.
11. Cook and N. W. Sanborn. The
headquartors of tho company will
be at llend. The capital stock is
!30,000, divided into 500 shores-at
the par value of $100 each.
McKenzie's Merry Makers, with

ing to official railroad time. Cus
todian Clow has made arrange
ments to get the official time twice
a month so that hereafter town
time will not be more than a few
seconds off,

himself in the arm with a 22-cali-ore
riile Sunday afternoon. Purdy,
who works for Jeff Evans, was out
shooting jack rabhitB and was in
the act of placing the rifle on the
ground when it was accidentally
discharged, the bullet striking him
on the wrist and ranging upward.
Dr. Belknap extracted the bullet.
With a little care the arm will be
all right again in a short time.
Bids Wanted
The Hoard of Education is plan
ning extensive improvements on
the High School, including carpen
tering, plumbing and masonry.
The contract to be let to the lowest
bidder. All who wish to bid are
requested to call at the office of
Supt. Ford and examine plana and
specifications and leave their bids
at their earliest possible conven
ience. It is further requested that all
submit two bids, one for cash in
full when the work is accepted,
and one, one-half cunh when work
is accepted and the remainder on
the first day of May, 1912.

The hotel at Metolius was 0)en
ed last Sunday. It is under the
direction of Mr. Moulden of Med
ford. The Metolius Oregonian says
that work on a o00,(HX)-gallon oil
fuel storage tank at that place is
well under way.
Mr. J. P. Keeler of Keeler, Sas
katchewan, mother of Mrs. John
It. Minpon, came in Tuesday even
ing for a visit of several weeks.
City Recorder lireece was called
upon Saturday evening to join in
wedlock Meuir Dickey and Mim
Sadie Porter, both of Crook county.
Mr. and Mrs. John Wigle and
Carey Foster and family left Tues
day morning for an outing at
Metolius.
No trace has been found of Mrs.
Tom McCrath, who disappeared
from Hend two weeks ago. It is
thought she committed suicide by
jumping into the Deschutes river.
The farmers of Crook county
are getting ready for harvest
While the wheat yield is not up to
the average it is not a total failure
where given proper tillage. The
potato crop is good.
Miss Baker, a linotype operator
from Chicago, accompanied by
her two brothers, were in I'rine
ville the first of the week looking
over this part of the interior. The
Bakers will locate here if suitable
homesteads can be found.
J. Warren Crooks and Miss Eva
Smith were married at Tacoma,
Wash., July 26. Word had
reached I'rineville through a
traveling man that Warren was
married, but there was nothing
sure about it until a letter to his
parents announced the fact. The
Journal extends congratulations.
John R. Stinson returned the
first of the week from a forest fire
fifteen miles northwest of Sisters.
It got started Thursday night and
was under control Sunday night.
It Bwept over several thousand
acres belonging to the national
forest and road company. The
damage was principally to young
frees. A carelessly thrown match
or cigarette started the fire.
Mrs. H. P. Belknap, who was a
delegate from Oregon to the Inter
national Sunday School Conven
tion at San Francisco, gave an ad
dress on the work of the conven
tion at a large union meeting at
the Methodist church on a recent
Sunday. The address was woll
prepared and was inspiring to the
large congregation of Sunday
School workers who beard it.
