did not come off as scheduled. The.
railroad boys did not show up fur
some reason.
The Sunday School at South
Powell Huttes will hold its session
on Crooked river on Rev. Wyalt's
homestead tho Sunday following

About an inch of rain has fallen
in this part of Crook county since
last Friday. The weather man
says .85 of an inch. It came in
the nick of time to save the grain,
flood average crops are now as
sured throughout the county.
George li. Kay of Post was down
for supplies Saturday. lie is
getting ready for haying. The
ranchers in the Iloraeheaven coun
try llnished the spring round-up
last week. They found stock in
good condition. The grass in the
timber is the best for several years.
(ieorge Siorkumnn met with an
unlortunate accident last week.
While returning home from town
his borne sliped his bridle and
ran away, throwing Mr. Stork
mann out, breaking his jaw bone
in two places. Drs. Hyde snd
Kdwards dressed the wounds and
had the injured man taken to
Portland to be examined by an
X-ray.
Miss Rosa ft. Parrott left Mon
day morning for lierkeley, Calif.,
where she goes to attend summer
school. This fall she will head the
department of Kr.glish at the
Monmouth Normal. During her
three-years' stay in Prineville Miss
Permit has made many warm
friends. While they regret to lose
her yet they are pleased to have
her ability as a teacher recognized
by a state institution.
When at the courthouse if you
hear 1 md noises like something
snapping or (Hipping, don't be
alraid. Its only Henry Clow's
new-fangled lawn mower. Nor is
it one of the sort that any old
scrub can push around. No, sir.
Henry has fixed up a gas engine
and with some bicycle gearing has
a contraption that will mow the
grass like a houso afire. Just at
present it takes two men to navi
gate it but as soon as a couple of
wheels arrive it will propel itself.

Hub Kinder left at this office a
head of lettuce that measured 1G
inches in diameter. He has plenty
more like it.
Charles A. Stevenson and
Margaret Barber Denier of Held,
Oregon, were married by Recorder

Chadwick II. Irvin and Nellie
O'Dell Johnson, both of Redmond,
were granted a license to wed the
first of the week.
Miss Ethel Potter returned Sun
day evening from Spokane to spend
the summer. She is now a full
fledged graduate nurse. Her
diploma is from one of the bet-t
hospitals in Spokane.
Arthur Bennett, who has a
ranch on Camp creek, came in last
Thurrday evening with his right
arm paralyzed. He didn't know
how it happened. Just woke up
in the morning with u useless arm.
Dr. Belknap fixed him up so that
he could use it a little and he has
gone back home. It will be all
right in time.

Jack Stone was brought over
from Rend the first of the week
ami examined by County Physi
cian Rosenberg as to his sanity.
While the fellow is not crazy his
mental condition is such that he
will be detained here for a time
pending results.
A marriage license was issued
Monday to Andrew Morrow and
Emily (i. Dougall. They will be
married in Portland today. Mr.
Morrow is one of Crook county's
prominent and successful sheep
men and Mrs. Dougall is a popu
lar school teacher at Grizzly.
Frank Foster and Elmer Clark
were over at Madras Saturday and
concluded to chip in four-bits
apiece and take a chance on an
automobile that was being rallied
off. They won it. If you wake
up some morning and find the
streets smoking you will know
they have brought it over from
Madras.
The Journal has juBt printed
700 abstracts for the Crook County
Abstract Co., using typewriter
type. This company is furnishing
200 of these abstracts to the Opal
City Land Co., owners of the town
site of Opal City, and 500 for The
Oregon Trunk Development Co.
Both are Portland firms. The
Oregon Trunk Development Co. is
platting and placing on the market
five town additions in this county,
as follows: Orandview addition
to Bend, Waterway addition to
Redmond, Pioneer addition to
Opal City, Terminal addition to
Culver, and the Warehouse addi
tion to Madras.

The ladies are invited to attend
the sessions of the development
league.
Crook county farmers are especi
ally urged to come and hear the
addresses ol President Gray on the
possibilities of the development of
Central Oregon.
Dr. H. G. Davis, who was a
delegate to the grand lodge K.
of P. at Astoria, returned home
Sunday evening. He reports an
enjoyable time.
Good roads, dry farming, the
establishment of experimental
farms and stations will be discussed
at the development meeting Fri
day afternoon. Come and hear
them.
At the wool Bales at Shaniko
Monday a million pounds were
sold on a weak market. Prices
ranged 10 per cent lower than at
the previous sales. Several lots
were withdrawn and will be ship
ped on consignment or held in
storage.
Colonel Belcher, Judge Wilcox
and W. B. Mann came over from
Redmond Wednesday morning.
They were just 55 minutes making
the trip over the new road. The
road is fine, the Colonel says.
Redmond is bonding the city for a
water supply. Water will be
brought from Cline Falls and
stored in a 100,000 gallon steel
tank for the use of the town and
railroad company.
