While Attending the Central Oregon Development League Look Over the Oregon and Western Addition Adjoining the Commercial Club Building. Fine Level Lots at from $110.00 to $250.00 Terms Easy. JOHN R. STINSON, Crook County Agent ' Oregon and Western Colonization Company The Big Convention Continued from first page. have written that they will posi tively be present. A number of business houses of Portland will be personally represented, but it is too early to give a list of them. Prineville will show its appreci ation of the honor of being chosen aa the first city in which the orga nization shall hold its meeting by cleaning up its streets, and putting on a holiday appearance. The stores and buildings will be beauti fied with the decorations planned Jforthe Fourth of July, and the 'streamers and bunting will remain up until after the Fourth. Thus Prineville will be in gala dress for an entire week. The meetings will be held at the Commercial Club rooms, which have been put in special readiness for the occasion. The assembly hall has been sealed and the down stairs rooms made aa attractive as possible for the visiters. The opening meeting will be held Fri day morning at 11 o'clock, and sessions will be held on Friday afternoon and evening, and !-atur-day morning and afternoon. To all of the meetings the resi dents of Prineville and farmers of the vicinity will be welcome, and a special invitation is extended o the farmers to come in and hear President Ciray's address on the possibilities of the development of Central Oregon. The meeting planned for Friday afternoon will deal with subjects they are directly interested. Good roads, dry farm ing, the establishment of experi mental farms and stations, and the problems of irrigation will be discussed by able speakers. At all eessions the snbjects under con sideration will be open for general discussion. The eessions will be presided over by Mr. William Hanley of Hums, vice president for Central Oregon of the Oregon Development League. He will be assisted in guiding the work of the organiza tion by Mr. C. C. Chapman, secre tary of the Oregon Development League and manager of the execu tive committee of the Portland Commercial club. Prior to the meeting Mr. Chapman has been visiting the commercial clubs of Bend, LaPine, Crescent, Laidlaw, Sisters, Redmond, Hillman, Me lolius, Culver and Madras. He will come to Prineville on Friday morning with the delegation from Madras. The hospitality to be offered by the Prineville Commercial Club will consist of a luncheon and re ception at the club rooms at noon on Friday, tendered by the Ladies' Auxiliary of the club, an auto ride on Saturday evening, and a ban quet at the Hotel Prineville on Saturday night. Arrangements for bousing the delegates are in the hands of a committee of the club, and the welfare of the guests of the city will be looked after by the social committee of the club, to which a number of citizens have been added. Examinations En tirely Too Long The teachers' examinations are over and the papers are in Salem, but the majority of the teachers of this connty are unanimous in their decision that many of the lists of questions were entirely too long to be answered in the alotted time; also that the arrangement of the schedule was very poor. The first day it waB necessary for some to work from 8 a. ni. to 6:30 p. m., while on Thursday the ex aminations were comparatively short. Friday 'brought another heavy day. Very few of the ap plicants finished the United States History questions in less than four hours. This meant no lunch nor rest before beginning the next subject. In some instances the questions were not clearly state' and tow caused loss o time. While these mistakes may ceem of little importance to those who make them out they mean much to the applicant, for hie success or failure may depend upon the cor rect interpretation of such subject One excellent change in the subjects of reading, spelling and writing was the methods work asked for in teaching these sub jects. This change will be mod helpful in two ways, viz: It will stimulate the teachers to a greater interest in methods and it will help the examiningboard to find out bow teachers are preparing these subject. This is not a plea for Bhort, easy examinations but for a good fair test of the teachers' efliciency with out subjecting them to three or four days of hard nervous work that in the end will leave him in doubt as to the result.
