Leve Divorc Suit Is Suddenly Ended.
Baker. With the introduction of
certiflod copy of the docre of divorce
granted by the circuit court of Cook
county. 111., In July, 1904, to Minerva
C. Love against Sidney C. Love, pro-
ceedinga before the referee in the
present Love divorce suit came to an
abrupt close. No more hearings w ill
be held until Mrs. Franc's Burnes,
mother of Marjorie Burnes Love, 11
able to testify.

Corporations Operating
State Under Ban.
Salem. Declaring that the state 01
Oregon is losing approximately from
$10,000 to $23,000 annually because of
foreign corporations entering this
state to transact business without
complying with Oregon laws requiring
the filing of certain papers and the
payment of declaration and annual 11
cense fees, Secretary of State Olcoit
is sending out letters to all district
attorneys in the state requesting them
to advise him of all such corporations
in his district that the fines and li
cense may be recovered by actions at
law.
Secretary Olcott also called atten
tion to the fact that in additioa to the
fine of $100 provided by section 6707,
section 6708 also provides that no cor
poration that has not complied with
the Oregon laws shall have standing
In the courts of the state.
Walks 50 Miles to Enter Plea.
Portland. E. G. Gardner, the home
teader of southern Oregon, who was
indicted for setting a fire in the Sis
kiyou national forest, pleaded guilty
through Attorney C. M. Idleman, in
the federal court, and the court post
poned sentence. Gardner has broken
all records in the northwest to obey
the summons of the court
Policeman Faces Charge.
Astoria. The examination of Po
lice Officer Rudolph Baseon, cSarged
with grafting, was commenced In the
police court Friday, but continued un
til Tuesday, when more testimony
was taken. The officer Is accused
with extorting money fcr police pro
tection from two women, whom he
afterwards arrested on charges of vagrancy.
FORM TAXPAYERS' LEAGUE
Yamhill County Protective Associa
tion Elects Officers.
McMinnvlIle. The organization of
the Taxpayers' Protective Association
of Yamhill county was effected here
by the adop.ion of a constitution and
the election of officers. The object cf
the association is to safeguard the
taxpayers' interests in demanding
that the county court exact from con
tractors and others a dollar's worth
of value for every dollar expended,
and to protect the members of the as
sociation from unequal assessment
and unjust taxation.

I Marshfield Those interested in the
chools of Marshfield and North Bend
are seriously considering the plan cf
Oerging the two school districts. It
;is Said that $8000 a year, .if not more,
could be saved by having one school
district for the two cities and there
would be other advantages in giving
better facilities.

ciation of the Pacific Northwest was

sion of a conference of Instructors in

The biggest and most Important
banking deal ever consummated In
southern Oregon was registered by
the consolidation of the First Na
tional Bank, of Roseburg, carrying
aggregate deposits of over $1,000,000.
The Grand Lodge of the Knights of
Pythias of Oregon convened in thir
tieth annual convention in Astoria,
Tuesday, June 20. Including the
grand officers, more than 200 dele
gates came from all parts of the
ftate.
The Southern Pacific rail crew has
laid steel on the new Natron exten
sion, building up the Willamette
River, as far as Blakleyville, 12
miles above Lowell and 34 miles
from Eugene, and is making rapid
headway. 1
Construction work on the main ca
nal of the Willamette Valley Irrigated
Land Company at West Stayton, was
completed June 15 and the crews set
to work on the main laterals. Water
Is already flowing through the canal
for some two miles.
J. W. Bailey, state dairy and food
commissioner, pleaded not guilty be
fore Presiding Judge Gantenbein,
when arraigned on the second Indict
ment accusing him of neglect of offi
cial duties by not publishing a bulls
tin of the chemical tests in his office.
The Ford gold medal given by Bur
gess Ford, of Portland, an alumnus
of Willamette, to the member of the
Willamette track and field team work

missing, lead to the belief of murder
and robbery.

made to recall a Judge from the bench,
according to the form of a petition
to recall Judge Coke, Roseburg.

which were alleged to have been
