Crook County High School Notes. Tbo students have begun to look forward to the finish. The warm days of the past month have been utilised by those in terested in outdoor sports. Our work has been unusually heavy this year, but most of it will be finished nicely. The students are capable of an unlimited am ount of work. We have had an enrollment of sixty eight stu dents this year and have lost only eight. An excellent record. Roy Lowther, our represent five in the Eastern Oregon ora torical contest, reports a very enjoyable trip. He received a low mark owiug to the fact that we had not been advised that the time limit was reduced to ten minutes. Had we known it he could have shortened his ora tion and would have stood a good chance of winning first place. At least, as his marks show, he could not have gone lower thau 6econd. More interest has been mani fested in athletics this year than ever before. Our football and baseball teams have passed the entire season without a defeat. Our basket ball teams would doubtless have established the 6ame record but were unable to secure games. Our track team has challenged every school near us, but has been unable to secure a single meet. However, a team com posed of Ray McCallister, Chas. Lowther, Karl Coffin and Wilford Belknap are in hard training preparing for the meet at the University of Oregon, to be held Friday, May 12. We have been greatly handicapped in training but feel sure our beys will do well. The baseball game with Bend Athletic Club, to have been play ed here last Saturday, was for some unexplainable reason can celled about noon on the day of the game. Nothing puts more life into a school than good, lively, honest athletics. The board should be commended for its action in pur chasing the block just east of the present grounds for athletic pur poses. The athletic association will expend a great deal of mon ey during the coming year mak ing these grounds the best in Eastern Oregon. Beside a grid iron and a diamond, a running track will be laid out and leveled. It will afford us an excellent place to hold all athletic contests. We students of the high school greatly appreciate this courtesy m providing this nela lor our use and commend them for their foresight in laying the founda tion for a greater high school. A number of improvements have been decided on for the near future. A good strong fence affords the grounds a much needed protection from stock and also some of our best friends who cannot resist making un sightly paths across the campus. The board has for some time been bunting for the proper man to take charge of the new man ual training department. The upper part of the annex will this summer be fitted up in an up to date manner, making it a first-class commercial school. The normal school will also be materially strengthened. An in crease in the library is being planned and a course equal to the first two years at the State Nor mal has been adopted. ' C. L. C. Horse for Sale. On I ho old ('.
