A. J. Weston and Bogue Harper hnth former members of the Mad ras police force, met in Culp'a pool hall vesterday in Madras ana en cmued in a nistol duel. Weston has two ugly wounds and Harper two. Harper is thought to De fatally injured. Weston is a man who has been on police duty in several cities and has iurl much experience in that kind of work. He is over six feet in height and weighs over 200 pounds. He was on the Madras police force for some time, but for gome reason resigned the place and two months ago applied for the po sition of nightwatch for Prineville. Following Weston's resignation from the Madras force, Bogue Harper was put on duty. There has been bad blood between the men for some time and Harper is jaid to have made statements that he would throw Weston "in the cooler," but never made an at tempt to do so. Harper gave up his position on the force the first of the year to Marshal-elect Loveland. According to the facts as they have been received by Sheriff Bal four, Weston was in Culp'a pool hall at noon Wednesday and Harper came into the place and at once commenced to shoot at Wes ton. The air was full of fire and smoke for a few seconds and as soon as it cleared away both men were found to be bleeding from The new council met Tuesday night. An ordinance was ordered drawn to cover the licensing of soft drink places and billiards and pool balls. This will be presented at an early meeting. All candidates for county offices have filed their bills of campaign expeneeB with County Clerk Brown. There were six justices elected in the county, none of which expended funds to secure j their election. ; Of the county offices the great est amount of money was expend ed by candidates for the therifS's office, a total of 1414.05, being the amounts turned in to the clerk. Sheriff Balfour expended the largest amount, according to the statements rendered. His expense for the primary election was $101.50, while 167.75 was expend ed in the general election.
