Odin Falls Power
Development
Charles M. I.anning, secretary
land manager of the Odin Falls
Irrigation fc Power Company, was
in the citv the lu?t ol tlie week
conferring with local busines men
a to how much contiuous electric
current couKI le useil in Prineville.
The plant of the Odin Fall
company will ho situated on the
Deschutes river a few miles below
('line Full and will lie hut eigh
teen miles due west ol this point.
Speaking of development of the
company's plant Mr. Lnnning said:
"The company under which the
development work is heing done
was organxied the first of January
this year, and since that time we
have worked rapidly hut quietly
toward the development of the
plant. I have been with a com
pany that has worked on the plan
for over a vear, and with which
Mr. Joseph ti. Houston was asso
ciated, under whom the work wa
started. We ordered an even
million feet of lumber to be
delivered on the ground by May 1,
but Ilia milling people failed after
they bad delivered about one'.hird
of the amount and their sureties ara
now finishing the contract. This
has delayed us tome, but we are
well under way again.
The power will be developed by
the use of a dam which will be so
construt ted that it can be raised at
any time to develop the maximum
power our filing gives us, which
will be from C000 to 8000 horee
power, according to the stage of
the water. For the pre-ent we will
build a flume 450 feet long that
will give us a fall of 25 fcit. That,
according to our engineers, will
give us 3500 horsepower. Of this
amount we will use from 500 to S00
horsepower in lifting the water for
the irrigation of our lands that lay
between the Deschutes and Crooked
river. The rest of the power is
for sale to any one for any purpose.
I am here now to find out if the
demand will justify running a line
into Prineville. Wo will ehow no
partiality in the matter and will
market the power whenever and
wherever the market can he found
that will pay the best. We will
begin delivering current within
eight months or postibly mx.
"I think the possibility of electric
transportation will warrcnt almost
any kind of a plant. I can Fee no
reason why Prineville will not re
ceive these'things and I am of the
opinion that Prineville will be one
of the biggest if not the biggest
town in Central Oregon.,'
Speaking of the 5000 acres of
land owned and controlled by his
company in the forks of the rive s
Mr. Lanning said that because of
the air drainage, the slope and the
depth of the soil, he was sure that
it wo ild devd p into lai d that
would raLe peaches successfully.
They will have water on the tract
as soon as possible.
Notice of Final Settlement.
