Redmond Up to Snuff.
Died.
Airs. huBannah Barnes, one of
the oldest pioneers of Central Ore
gon, died at the family home Mon
day, July 4, after a lingering ill
ness. Mrs. lUrnes whose maiden name
was Susannah T. Glenn, was born
in Missouri, January 15, 1828, and
wag. married to Elisha Barnes on
June 18,1818. They crossed the
plains to the California gold fields
in 1852 and lived for nine years in
a district where there were but two
women besides Mrs. Barnes. In
1861 the family moved to Linn
county and resided there for eight
years, from which place they
moved to Prineville in 1869. Mr.
Barnes took a homestead two miles
east of this place in one of the best
sections of the valley. A few years
H. F. Jones of Redmond and
Jacob and Lara Jones of Pueblo,
Colo., the father and sister of our
Redmond friend, were in the
county seat yesterday. Speaking
of the progress of Redmond Mr.
Jones said: "The Crook County
Light & Power company will have
an electric current supply and a
city water system installed in
Redmond within the current
month, barring accidents.
The electric current will ,be
ready as soon as the wire arrives
and can be strung that will be
sufficient to carry 300 16 candle
glolies. All lights will be of the
tantalum order which can be run
with less waBte of energy than the
common carbon lamp.
Cluster street lights will be in
stalled, each cluster of lights to
have 150 candle power.
The water supply will come from
the deep well owned by the com
pany which supplies a good flow of
pure water from a depth of 445
feet. The well at present is fitted
with a2J" pipe and is of sufficient
size to accommodate a 4" pipe as
soon as it is required. The water
is to be pumped into a redwood
tank of 10,000 gallon .capacity
which will provide pressure for the
private houses. The pipe, of which
there is 14,000 feet will be laid in
such a manner that it can be used
when a gravity system is installed.
Motive power for the plant is
supplied by a nine horse power
special electric gas engine, of the
riurnanics .Norse make. The plant
installed will cost some $7000.
