to the state fair at Salem, and will
go himself with a large display of
the many varieties to the state fair
and Dry Farming Congresa at
Spokane which will begin during
the Bret week in October. From
Spokane Mr. Reuter will return to
the district fair which will be held
in Prineville during the third week
in October, and will bring his ex
hibita with him.
The local fair board, whose work
will be materially assisted by the
Prineville Commercial Club, is
making an effort to improv.e the
quality and largely increase the
quantity of exhibits for next Oc
tober. Many people will no doubt
visit the fair here for the purpose
of seeing the products of the coun
try, and the showing should be one
that will represent the general
character of the county, its soil
and fertility.
During the recent visit of Presi
dent Davidson of the Oregon &
Western Colonization Company,
President Williamson of the Prine
ville Commercial Club secured an
agreement with the colonization
ompany for an unlimited amount
of space in the section bought by
these ' people at the United
Slates Land fc Irrigation Expo
eition which will be held in
the Coliseum at Chicago during
the month of November, which
space will be occupied by exhibits
furnished by the club and which
will be; selected largely from the
exhibits at the Prineville fair. ,
, The space secured by Mr. David
son in the Coliseum is a strip or
row of booths that will form a
solid band of exhibits over 100 feet
long and ' about twelve feet deep,
the selection being located opposite
the main entrance to the building,
where the vast multitudes of
visitors will be attracted first on
their entrance to the building
The space cost Mr. Davidson's peo
ple about $2000 for the fair which
will la3t for sixteen days.
The agreement was reached with
Davidson or the reason that Prine
ville is situated on the land grant
and that it is representative of the
remainder of the grant.
In order to make the showing
what it should be and can be made
by the Commercial Club, it will be
necessary to get the co operation of
the producers of every kind of
product in every part, of the
county. The name of the grower,
IP RICE BROS.

postoffice, and the legal subdivision
of the land on which each article
is grown is required and it is not
only the opportunity but it is also
the duty of every one in every part
of Central Oregon to act with the
club in this matter, so that the

to the great throngs of homeseek

this exposition. -
This show is under the manage

besides the fact that the exhibits

dividual transfer that the world
has ever seen. The sale and de
velopment of these lands will make
all property many tinrs higher

"You have a much better town
here than we expected to find eo
far from a railroid, and it could
not have been built here if the
surrounding country had not been
first-class, and its future develop
ment will depend" upon the sur
rounding country and the trade
that comes from it, of course."
In remarks along this same line
President Davidson of the company
stated that the entire settlement
of the company's lands would be
completed in a .very short time
after it was once begun, and that
he - thought the work would
next spring, at which time the
company plans to run special
trains from eastern points to as near
Prineville as it is possible to get
at that time by rail. "If local
capital cannot develop the irriga
tion and other projects that should
be developed, I am associated with
millions of eastern money that
would be pleased to do so," added
Mr. Davidson in concluding his
speech.
