interior of Canada from a point on
the coast near Ashcroft,

4000 feet in forly miles. This
general altitude is maintained in
all ports of the interior as far aa
the eye could reach, except three
ranges of mountains and occasion
al valleys, in some of which the

In the highlands the tempera
ture reaches 60 below zero and
that temperature is maintained for
six weeks at a time,- while further
inland the valleys boast of weath
er almost aa mild as Oregon in

The highlands are timbered with
pino, fir and poplar, and the
ground is covered with a grass
eighteen inches high .that is of the
same general character as the pine
grass ot this country.
The Lao La llache valley, one
hundred miles from the coast, is
dotted with stock ranches. The
soil is fertile and the surface of the
land is rolling in nature.
In the interior the price of hay
is from $30 to $40 per ton and
grain is 4 to 5 cents per pound.
