School District
Superintendent Ford returned
the firs, of tl week from a hard
trip to the northeastern part of the
county. School District No. 15,
which ia located in that inaccess
ible tortiono1 Crook county, has
lieen somewhat neglected for a
number ot year, and as a conse
quence was allowed to lapse. Mr.
Ford concluded to visit the section
aid- find out the trouble. He
found several townships that were
without school facilities. The
children, sorte fifteen or twenty of
th 'ni, were going to school over in
Wheeler county. Usually where a
t hoc! district is divided between
two counties the children are enu
merated in the county where the
live, but in this case they were not.
Wbeeier county got all the benefit
o? the enumeration, which make
quite an item in the per capita tax
The county superintendent took the
matter up with the school officials
o the Wliee'.cr side ot the line and
hopes to have the matter straight
ened out in time to get the benefit
of the next reboot appoitionment
In all probability the district will
lo reorganised, as most of the terri
tory lies in Crook county.
In his travels Mr. rord did not
find many complaints on account
of loss of cattle. Oiia man had
$000 sheep and his loss during th
winter was 200. This was about
the average. The grass on the hills
around Ashwood and over to the
John Day is good. Sheep look well.

Mirses Blanche Wilson and
Lotta Smith were absent from
Junior class a part of last Friday
The Junior class is proud of
the showing made by its represent
ative in the declamation contest
as she (Blanche Wilson) won sec
ond place and was beaten only by
the representative from the famous
'10 class.
The Sophomores and Freshmen
are allowed ten percent in English
(or entering the declamation and
oratorical try-outs. This will
materially raise the grades of these
classes as many have entered
the declamation and many are go
ing to enter the oratorical, and will
necessitate some bard work on the
part of the Seniors to still hold
first place for monthly averages..
Miss Wilda Xye, 12, represented
the Alphas in the place of Warren
Yancey, '13, who had cot suffi
ciently recovered from his accident
to take his place on the program.
Fmkaoa aasl Seaisri.
We are sorry to lose Miss Mary
McDowell, '13, but hope she will be
with us again in September.
The Seniors are congratulating
themselves on their representative
in the declamation contest as the
one senior (Wilford Belknap) who
went in, carried off the honor,
securing first place.
The freshmen received honorable
mention in the contest and one of
their class secured third place.
