Youngs Items.
The cold weather in so severe
that the Hchool here will be closed
lor a short time. Several of the
children are suffering from severe
colds and it is best to keep them in
for a while.
L. N. Young has sold his general
merchandise store and will go to
hit ranch about fivo miles away
from here. We have been unable
to learn the man's name who
purchased the store.
The wife and infant girl of Joe
Stewart are reported seriously ill
The mother waB better at last re
port, but the baby was no better.
Wm. Brownhill and Miss Mc
Donald went to visit friends in
Portland. When they returned they
notified their friends that they
were now Mr. and Mrs. Brownhill
and would be pleased to see their
old friends in their home on the
big plains.
Mrs. Akeyson has been quite
sick. Dr. Snooks of Madras was in
attendance.
The Thanksgiving holiday was
for two days in the school here.

. About eleven inches of snow has
fallen since Saturday.
Ernest McKenzie had his leg
badly injured the other day. His
horse fell on it. It will lay him up
for a few weeks.
Lumber hauling has commenced
again. The rain made roads im
passable but the cold weather has
again restored good wheeling.

R. W, Bland and wife made the
county seat a visit last week.
Albert Cubbitt has moved to his
new home that was left him by
Mrs. McMeekin.
The school here gave a short

preparing for a Christmas tree.
Miss Vivian Allen, our teacher,
spent Thanksgiving vacation with
friends in Frineville.
R-v. Qeorge Ends of Lamonta
preached an interesting sermon to
the people of the community last

Mr. Triplettand family were at
Prineville this week.
Frank Duchein took a merry
widow ride last Sunday, so it is

Deschutes River
Cleans Out Camps.

The Deschutes river broke away
from its traditional evenness of
temper and became a raging torrent
last week getting out of its em
bankment and making things in
teresting in general for the con
tractors of the Deschutes Railway
and the Oregon Trunk Line. The
stream rose 10 feet in 24 hours.
Two camps belonging to Twohy
Brothers were swept away with
tents, bunk houses, supplies, in
fact, the camps were cleaned out.
One of Porter -Brothers' campp,
which is situated upon a higher
piece of ground, was entirely Bur
rounded by water and deserted
owing to the inability to get eup-
heavyweight championship of the
